I'd like to use an award (first redemption!) to fly from CLT to IAH this Sunday, but the only flight available is at 7:45am. Being that there are several flights later on, is it POSSIBLE (or advisable?!?) to skip that one and try and fly standby on a later flight? Or is that absolutely not allowed on an award ticket?

Thanks in advance for your help!!! :D

Sure can standby on award tickets. No standby fee, either.

jcooke is correct...no standby fee for an award ticket. Personally I would feel more comfortable booking a later flight (Monday if that's what is available) and then standby for whatever flights show the best availability on Sunday.

I'd do the same. Award tickets, unlike revenue tickets let you standby any day prior to ticketed departure, so just book for a later date and see if you can get on any flights Sunday afternoon.

You run the risk of losing your reservation if you don't show up for your ticketed flight.

Thanks ^ for all the responses--I will book the ticket for Monday and fly out Sunday afternoon per your suggestions. Long live FT!!!
