Rumors of a golf do have been amiss at some recent dos, lunches, etc and I thought that I'd take the initative to organize such an event.
I propose a Saturday in May, preferably May 7, 14 or 21 and we could hit the links by 9am and the 19th hole by 1pm.
Additionally, I propose a nice centrally located golf course in the not-too-distant Western Burbs without the overcrowding of White Pines...

I can do the 7th. I can't do the 14th or 21st as I'm already ticketed to be out of town both weekends.
But 9am on a Saturday east of 355 might be a little difficult especially if there ends up being 6 or 8 of us. We're probably better off driving the extra 15 minutes and going someplace west of Route 59.
On the same vein, does anybody want to play University Ridge in Madison some Saturday in June or July?

This new job of mine has completely taken over my life. I hate to say it, but I'm actually having fun. :D
I've been assigned to manage 5 new developments, we are entrenched in a legal battle (read St. Charles) for the first property. The second development is beautiful; a survey has found a utility conduit that was installed about 2.5' from the actual recorded easement, which throws us into another battle with ComEd and an unnamed po-dunk Chicago suburb... Two are under construction and the last will be fully entitled by May 31st, due to break ground on June 1st.

Anybody else interested in either 5/7 or 5/21 in Chicago, and a date TBD in Madison?
I could be interested in the 21st, and in Madison.
But that would depend on the skill level of the others playing--lower the better, cause I'm pretty rusty :p (First round of the season tomorrow, but last year was a wash cause I was in the woods all summer)
Obviously, I'd be a fan of the north/northwest side, and a tee time that's not the crack of dawn. Money is a concern, but for a really good course I'll consider splurging a little (U Ridge is about my absolute max I can afford at the moment)

Eh, its ok, as long as you are outside, enjoying the weather and the game.

Not Big Run. It's way way way long and often into the wind. One of my cousins is an ex-hockey player that hits his drive about 285 on average, and he says that Big Run is too long for even him. Plus it's probably more than an hour for you, as are most of the courses I normally play like Broken Arrow down in Lockport.
Where's Blackhawk at?
Village Links of Glen Ellyn might be a good choice. There are also some nice courses up near Mundelein, but you should save those for the 21st since others who live north sound like possible attendees.

If we have an out of town visitor, we'll have to pick a nicer course. Something that used to rank 4* from Golf Digest back in the Second Edition book before all the ratings inflation, such as Cantigny, Golf Club of Illinois, Cog #4, Harborside, etc.

How many did you reserve for? I still wouldn't mind playing, even though I know I should be doing other things, so if you've got space that's cool, but otherwise I'll try to catch a round in June. Looks like the rate is $50 for 18 from what I can find?

I doubt that there's an outing discount unless we're a very large group, but one thing is that if we can get two foursomes we can book in advance instead of waiting until 7 days out.

$65 for twilight? That's a little high but not bad, Village Links has always had a better reputation than the other courses in Central DuPage. I've never played there because they won't slot singles in over the phone.
Directions from the North, as MapBlast's directions are POS:
294 South to 88 West to 355 North to Roosevelt/IL-38 West (left) to Park North (right) to 220 N. Park. Exact change needed at Roosevelt (I think it's 60 cents). Figure on 90 minutes from Mitchell Field if there's no traffic.

Well, in reality, only one of us needs to pay for the cart, the other can just tag along and split the difference, if you don't mind sharing a cart with me :)
Are we BYOB?

That's probably $65 including 1/2 cart... I'm definitely riding as I'm not yet in shape to both walk 18 and hold a semi-coherent conversation.
I don't drink alcohol on the golf course, so bring what you're gonna drink yourself. I'll take the lead in finding an after-round place for beer and food.
BTW, when is our tee time?

Ah, I see.
Our tee time is 2:00pm. I plan on being there at 1:00pm to putt around and relax. I hate showing up minutes before and being hurried to the tee.

I am so pumped for my first round of the year...
"This is a hybrid, its a cross of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and get stoned to the bejeezus that night on this stuff." -Carl Spackler
Me too! (and that means I won't be the only rusty one!)
My attempt at a first round two weeks ago was cancelled when we saw the whitecaps on Lake Michigan and the blowing snow flurries.

So did you three survive?

Yeah, but the course won. Too much water, not enough distance markers. I had the excuse of old age as I couldn't get my back loose for about five holes... by which point I had already made two quads, two triples, and a double. I played pretty well for about nine holes after that, then the cold front came through and the temperature dropped to about 55 and I just wanted to get off the course.
I couldn't figure out if the waitress at Champps was pretending to be interested in FI-UAL or MKE-MR. But I got free bacon on my salad, so I was happy.

I shot a 101 with a 10, a 9 and 2 - 8's!
If I would've bogeyed those four holes, I would have shot a respectible 91.
Excluding those wild holes, I shot the ball pretty well and we certainly enjoyed the conversations. Very nice to meet Mark (MKE-MR) and to buy a round for Nick's b-day!
Overall, a great time was had. I felt pretty sick after that burger from Champps, my stomach churned all night. Looking forward to playing U-Ridge in June! Nick, shall I start a thread or do you want to?

Yeah, water on 15 out of 18 holes...I lost at least 5 balls to hazards, which would have brought my score right down to FightingIlliniUAL's.
And yeah, I think the waitress was sort of angling for both--but as is most often the case, the key word is PRETENDING :D
Free bacon? You got a free salad, dude!
Just found out yesterday I'm going to be in St. Louis for a family obligation on the weekend of June 4th, but if you guys play U-Ridge I might be able to make it for a post-round dinner in Madison or if you stop on I-90 on the way back to Chicago. I'll keep an eye out.
And thanks, it was fun.

I think that URidge is probably going to slip into early September, whichever weekend UW-M doesn't have a home football game.
