I will be flying to Toronto every week for the next few months and Air Canada is the best option from EWR and LGA. Does anyone know if we can get credit toward status on them, like we do on United. If yes does that go for all star alliance carriers.

Cheers

Yes and yes. However, you will not recieve any status-related bonuses. There is also quite a long list of non-mileage earning fares on AC (Tango fares on AC's website), however the Tango Plus fares will usually be the cheapest on those routes, and earn full mileage.

Flying AC and earning US miles, it's difficult to know in advance which fares will be mileage-earning. On a couple of occasions I've e-mailed or called DM to ask for a listing. The last reply (3/2005) was "Some of the classes of service that we show are not valid for accrual on Air Canada flights are D, E, G, I, N, R, T, W, X, Z."

Also you won't necessarily see the fare class on your AC boarding pass - most recently I had a roundtrip where one segment posted miles and the other did not, though the fare ("Fun") was the same on each boarding pass. ...Since we no longer get the 100% bonus, I'm debating whether it's worth the effort to write to DM for 500 miles.

Bottom line: If you fly AC and give them your US DM number, sometimes you will get flight credit and sometimes you will not. If you write DM about missing mileage credit, sometimes they will add the segment and sometimes they will not. Sound confusing? Good luck.
