US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - us flight mht to london nov upgrade?

I am a silver (a very new one!) and am planning to fly to London in November. It is my mother's 70th birthday which is why I am going at
such a cold time of year! LOL.
Anyway, will I be able to upgrade as a silver? What about my husband?
Will I just be on the waitlist like I am on domestic flights?
Any input anyone?
Pam

As a Silver, you wouldn't have Transatlantic Upgrades to use, so you'd have to use miles (your e-upgrades do not work for transatlantic flights). Of course, they only work for certain fare classes - so if you've booked a really cheap ticket, it's likely that you may not be able to upgrade.

More info on mileage based upgrades here: http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/redeemingmiles/howtoredeem/upgrades.htm

There's also some transatlantic upgrades out there that are either customer service ones or sometimes issued by US for corporate customers (never saw them, but they may be the CS and DS type that have been referred to in the past - if Search is back up anytime soon, there are threads on it).

Others know much more about this topic than I, so I'll defer to them on this.

what method of upgrading do you want to use? I assume miles and with London sometimes you can spend a little more and get an upgradeable at the time or purchase ticket. I have to say that in november i was denied an upgrade as Chairmens to germany, so i think its going to be tight trying to upgrade as a silver really at anytime. Id advise getting midweek flights if you can to improve your chances

You can check eBay to buy "space available" transatlantic upgrades (at your own risk, of course...but they've worked well for many people here on FlyerTalk), which are valid on any fare class.

Otherwise, I'm afraid the cheapest way to upgrade as a Silver is using miles, on a Q, H, M, B, or Y fare.
