America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Flying Am.West -- want to put miles elsewhere

I'm flying America West for the first time and I don't have their FF membership. Is it possible to put my miles on another carrier's program (i.e., do they have any alliances in that direction)?

My main program is AAdvantage, but I also have SkyMiles (DL), and a bunch of other (less used) ones.

Thanks!

Your limited options for receiving credit to another airline's FF program when flying America West are:

Hawaiian Airlines

British Airways

Virgin Atlantic

Royal Jordanian

Northwest Airlines (All America West-operated flights between the United States and Mexico/Canada/Alaska as well as Northwest-coded flights between Phoenix/Las Vegas and Los Angeles/San Francisco when connecting to Northwest Airlines flights to/from Asia.)

Bummer, huh?

Thanks for the info...not GREAT news, but BA may work -- I don't have enough miles there to be of much use, but it's better than throwing it all away.

I occasionally fly America West, PHX to the East Coast (usually NY). I credit my miles to BA. If you already have a BA account, you are in luck. With that BA account, you can use your miles on any of the OneWorld carriers (some very good ones). You can book your AA trips using your BA account.

If you don't have a BA account, I believe you have to fly BA on a trip to get one.

Thanks, greatam. I do have a BA account with around 12,000 miles (not much use, but enough for a domestic UK trip or a Europe Zone 1 R/T). The only problem with putting my HP trip miles there is that my fare is not a "full" fare and as such I will only receive 25% credit. I think that I will end up doing that, though, because I have never flown HP before and I don't anticipate using it again -- nothing against it, but its routes aren't very useful to me, personally. FYI, my HP trip will be JFK/LAS/JFK, with about 5,000 flown miles. Putting it into BA will net me around 1,250.

Are you sure that the miles are devalued if sent to BA? I would like to do the same thing, but won't proceed if that is the result.

I am a Platinum Elite with AmericaWest and I would definitely advise against transfering anything to this program. AmericaWest is in the process of revamping its airline to more directly compete with Southwest, and in the process is destroying the FlightFund program for high mileage flyers. I fly twice a week EVERY week and have not had a first class upgrade in over three months. I have over 100,000 miles annually (real flying miles, not including bonus miles or other programs). If I am getting no benefit from my elite status on this airline I doubt very many others are.

I am presently going with Continental's OA Match program (other airline match) to obtain Platinum status with Continental for switching to them for my primary carrier. IF anyone has some advice on this move, please let me know.

I wouldn't pay for it just for this case, but as an admitted miles/points junkie, I have a membership with Points.com that allows me to consolidate miles such as these to my "more preferred" programs...i.e. HP miles that are earned 3-4 times a year are transferred either to Gold Points or Priority Club. Not sure if this helps you, but it throws one more idea on the table...
