Fuel Surcharge Increases

Domestic travel

Domestic airfares on Air New Zealand's regional Link services will increase by $5 (inclusive of GST) per one-way journey and domestic main trunk jet services by $10 (inclusive of GST).

Airfares for journeys that combine a regional and main trunk service will increase by $10 (inclusive of GST) per one-way journey.

International Tickets Sold in New Zealand

Trans-Tasman and Pacific Islands flights will incur a $42 per sector surcharge (up from $30).

Customers flying on long haul sectors will incur a $52 surcharge per sector (up from $40).

A New Zealand-Los Angeles-London journey will incur a surcharge of $92, an increase of $22.

Why do businesses engage in this silly "surcharge" game? There will always be some higher expense they could use as a pretext to justify a higher price. "Surcharge" implies that they are not really out to take more money from you -- it's just that these unforeseen expenses require some help from you, the consumer.

This is capitalism. Call it a "price increase that we think will lead to more revenue". Better yet, call it nothing at all and stop insulting us.

For international flights, would this also apply to Air NZ tickets issued by Air NZ at their CTO overseas? Or does it only apply to tickets issued within New Zealand?

The surcharges are for all NZ metal flights. Not sure exactly how codeshares are treated.
