Just saw a very good and informative ad for Independence Air in the University of Maryland newspaper. Nice to see they are finally starting to do some targetted advertising.
If anyone wants a scan of it, let me know.

I saw several ads for them in the Wall Street Journal when announcing the west coast routes, and for as few ads as I notice in the Journal, they must have bothered to get good placement for me to notice.

They open SEA in three weeks and there is no on-the-ground marketing out here. Nothing. I guarantee 99% of the locals here have never heard of Indy. The first eastbounds are going to be pretty thinly loaded, I bet, as they're doing nothing to stimulate origin traffic here.

They're promoting the west coast info a lot to the existing fliers, so I think that's the starting point. Fliers from the new markets will see them on the various GDS bookers (except Expedia) when they go to look for flights. I think it's a lot easier to market to the existing customer base rather than trying to spend a lot of money in the new markets.
