UpgradeMe Apr 3, 05, 7:49 am Of course. PremEx Apr 3, 05, 2:56 pm You pretty much get all your normal SPG points on $$$ spent and hotel property benefits when using SPG50's. paul_nl Apr 3, 05, 3:05 pm so far I haven't found any use for the 50% off award since it's 50% off the rack rate and most of the times there are other rates that are equal or lesser than that. TTT Apr 3, 05, 3:06 pm You pretty much get all your normal SPG points on $$$ spent and hotel property benefits when using SPG50's except you don't technically earn Night and Stay credits toward elite on these stays. Although that does happen by accident sometimes. I actually think you do earn stay credits for stays with the SPG50. I have asked a rep this question and her answer was yes. Also in the ToC it explicitly excludes some hotels from SPG50 benefits, but on a whole they do earn points and stay credits. There are a few threads in SPG FAQ that also address this question. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174949 (Posts 10-12) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174949 skibum_nj Apr 3, 05, 3:08 pm Of course. I guess with the search function down, you had to find other ways of being obnoxious. PremEx Apr 3, 05, 5:08 pm I actually think you do earn stay credits for stays with the SPG50. Sorry 'bout that slip-up folks! MS OHNO and I will be down in the FL Keys next week and will be using a SPG50 since Cash & Points were not available. You are right though, seems like better rates can be had pretty easily with a little effort. sbtinme Apr 3, 05, 7:36 pm This is only the twelve billionth time this topic has come up. You're right SPG50 will often not net the best price out there; yet for many of us who can plan in advance at certain properties, the SPG50 is most useful. Personally, I have found wide use for SPG50 in Europe and domestically (US) at airport hotels (of all things). In all the times I've stayed at the Sheraton Bal Harbour over the years, I believe that every single stay was on an SPG50 rate that saved me about $50 USD/nt. Keep looking, folks. These are not as worthless as you may think. nparker99 Apr 3, 05, 8:16 pm I saved myself a fortune using the SPG50 in Japan. I called Amex Platinum travel, Virtuoso, looked on the web, etc. and couldn't get within $100/night of the rate I got with the SPG50. I was able to snag a Corner Exec Club level room (with potential upgrade at check-in to a junior suite or higher since I'm *wood gold) for less than what I could find a "regular" room elsewhere. I will admit, I haven't found the SPG50 to be of much use in the US - but some overseas locations can be great. VolleyballFerd Apr 15, 05, 6:24 pm In the category of "where the SPG50 really worked" - I just made a reservation at the Westin Park Central in Dallas - best website rate was $209, but with SPG50 I got it for $134.50 a night. |
