Have been trying to book at Swan/Dolphin in Orlando for 2006. AAA, AARP and Government rates do not come up when using the drop down menu for special rate programs. When I plug in the codes for AAA or AARP in the promotional code area, the rates do come up. Does anyone know if there is a special promotional code for Government employees for 2006?

There is no special code - they either don't have government rates available or they are not loaded in the system. You might try calling the hotel directly.

What kind of government conference is being held at the Swan/Dolphin? Seems a bit ritzy.....

It doesn't have to be a government conference to use the rate. It's too early for those rates to be loaded yet for 2006 at those properties though.

You're right. There is no conference. Like a lot of other hotels, Starwood sometimes has a rate available for government employees who are traveling. Have received it at this property in the past. Any idea when they post for 2006?

. . .- have you tried a more reasonable alternative like Sheraton World or some of the other hotels/chains that aren't geared towards the WDW family vacationers? ;)

Wow - I didn't realize that the government could plan that far ahead either. Seems even more ritzy for just routine government business - have you tried a more reasonable alternative like Sheraton World or some of the other hotels/chains that aren't geared towards the WDW family vacationers? ;)

Actually, this government rate (for all governement workers: local, state and federal) is meant for WDW family vacationers, they also have discounts for teachers and nurses.

You're right. We've received this rate numerous times in the past for vacationing. We tried many times to get it for 2005 and it was never available. Now we're planning for 2006 and hope to be able to access it.

Well cool....is that Starwood's way to give back to the community or something? How did you get this information?

What's the discount code for nurses?

As a govt. employee, I've often wondered about the possibility of getting a govt. discount when on personal travel. Is there a way to tell if that's allowed on the website, or do you just need to call the hotel?

When you have chosen the hotel and are booking on the web, look for the drop down box (usually on the left side) where it says "Rate Preferences" and then underneath where it says "Special Rate Plans". Click on this and it will bring up special rates, including government. You can also call the hotel.
Good luck!!

I've booked govt. rates online for business before--just looking for clarification RE: using govt. rates for personal travel.

The government rate is for government employees traveling on business only. This is probably why it is no longer available for booking online at the WDW properties. ;)

That's what I figured and it's why I've never tried to use it for personal travel. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm using the government rate for business travel in a month or so and decided to come in a day early (personal use). I called and explained to the reservations line and the agent gave me the government rate for the extra day. I'll obviously be paying for that myself, but it was nice of them to do--probably different from your situation, but FYI.

I have used Government Rates at multiple Hilton and Starwood properties for personal pleasure. The hotels I contacted did not say that it had to be business, as long as you are able to show a government ID when checking-in.

You've been pretty lucky, I would guess. ;)
