Starwood Preferred Guest - Possible to combine reservation with *point night?

I'm planning a stay in Italy later this Summer. I managed to get a couple of nights from my employer (who doesn't book through *wood), but will need to pay full price for the rest of the stay. Because of the exchange rate, I would like to use points if possible. Is it to make a second reservation with *points and then somehow combine the two so I won't need to switch rooms in the middle of the stay. I'm hoping someone here knows if that's possible and what steps I need to take to do that.

I've done that a number of times. You can just add a note to your reservation and be sure to tell the clerk at check in.

I have "merged" point stays and paid stays many times and have never had to change rooms. *wood likes to keep the paid and freebie on different reservations with different confirmation numbers, though. Everytime I ask the PLT desk to "merge" them, they say they can't.

I usually try to have the paid reservation as the first leg of the stay if possible , but sometimes (using a free weekend to start my business trip) that doesn't work. But in either case, I've never had a problem "merging" the two, and I've never had to move rooms.

I just returned from a 6 night stay at the Shertaon Wild Horse Pass - 2 nights from the 5/1 promo and 4 nights on Cash & Points. I called when I made the reservations and they made a note to combine them.

I mentioned it at check-in and they had to find a room for 6 nights vs. the 2 on the first reservation. So the note doesn't always make it to the property, but they were very accomodating once I pointed it out.

They did ask me to stop by the desk the morning after the second night, which I did and was told it was all taken care of. When I returned my key didn't work so I had to go to the desk again, but that was about the only effort required.

Good attitude CPRich!

So many whiners around here would have raised Hell just to go back to the front desk...

I suppose that in FT fashion I should be asking how many points I am owed for this huge inconvenience. ;)

"You may actually ask for 3 free nights as a compensation, or would you rather have a 10 000 starpoints deposit into your account as an apology to you oh dear Mr. Platinumr?" :p
