Folks,
Have to be in Richmond, VA (downtown, I think: an event at Virginia Commonwealth University) next weekend. There doesn't seem to any SPG really close by. The Richmond West Sheraton seems closest. Any comments/feedback?

Thanks!

I stayed at the Richmond Sheraton West several times over the last year and it is a fairly nice property. At least some of the rooms have been renovated recently. For downtown Richmond business, you should stay at the Sheraton if you will have a car (there is easy access to I-64 to I-95) but stay downtown otherwise.

If I were attending an event at VCU in DT RIC that would consume most of my time (i.e. breakfast until 7pm or later), I'd stay at the DT Marriott which will be but a few blocks from the event. This is a decent Marriott.

The Sheraton on West Broad St Rd (yes, Street Road, don't ask -- it's a RIC thing) is the former Hyatt that was well maintained for DECADES. The location of this hotel on W Broad St Rd is great since there are scads of restaurants and diversions all around you there. However, if all meals and diversions will be taking place with your group at VCU, this would be inconvient for you.

In any case, I've not stayed at either hotel in years. :D

Thank you both! I checked the prices of the Sheraton Richmond West and the Downtonw Marriott. There's a $40 price difference, so I think I'll give the Sheraton a try. I really appreciate your help and advice! :)

Just came back from a brief stay at the Richmond West Sheraton.
Rooms are spacious and clean. Wireless Internet works very well. Got strong signal throughout. Beds are comfortable.
Booked a club room, but upon checkin was told on weekends it's all the same (no club level benefits, I knew that, but also no club level amenities including bathrobes, etc.). Put me in a regular room in the middle of the hallway (building C). Certainly not any kind of upgrade (I'm just gold, though). Don't remember when I booked the room whether club rooms were more expensive, but no matter. The room was comfortable enough (though I wonder why there was an ashtray in a non-smoking room).
The indoor pool is very small. Not being a swimmer, it didn't matter to me. But others should be aware.
Bathroom amenities were okay, but no lotion or mouthwash. When I asked, they told me they had run out. I did find two hair conditioners in the room. :)
Apparently no express checkout. No bill under the door at night. Went to the front desk to check out in the morning. The clerk gave me the receipt efficiently enough. Never bothered to ask how my stay was (overall it was fine, by the way).
Will I go back? I think next time I'll try something different, and see how they compare. I'm not unhappy about the stay, but didn't particularly enjoyed it either.

choptliva, I didn't see you post earlier or I could've helped - I've stayed in that Sheraton a few times. In case you go back, here's my advice. First, definitely book a non-smoking room and complain until you get it. Philip Morris headquarters are across the street so the smoking rooms see A LOT of smoke. Second, by far the nicest rooms are in the tower building, so it's always worth a shot to see if you can reserve one of those. If you go again, PM me and I can ping you the reservation manager's contact info.

Thanks, Letisko. I'll keep this in mind :)
