Is it me or are they excessively LOUD? I mean they are so loud, whether it's the safety video with the outdated circa '91 chick walkin' down the aisle, or general announcments, that even with my Bose headphones on it as if they are speaking directly into me ear.

This is even more apparent if you happen to be underneath the speaker on one of their RJ's. You have no choice but to cover your ears while looking like an idiot.

Work must be slow today..... :D

It is loud on almost every flight I've flown on. Previously some had speculated that the volume was not controllable and that perhaps the knob might be hidden or need a tech for adjustment. I believed this was so until a ATL-SLC on delta where one of the flight attendents actually lowered the volume  . This shows that at least on boeing 757 it is possible. Maybe she had inside info on how to control them. I think it is kept loud to avoid liability issues more than anything  . Perhaps an FA could enlighten us on what the official line is?

It's probably turned up loud so all the a-holes on their cellphones can hear it over their own loud mouths.

I actually met her on flight a number of years ago. I've seen her around since.

The volume can sometimes be uncomfortably loud. Even more so on the newer RJs. It's a balance for those that are a bit hard of hearing and those that can hear perfectly. However I agreed that the volume can be tweaked down a bit, or an easy fix is the FA's can hold the mic/phone farther away from their mouths.

According to a FA I talked to on a recent trip her name is "Natalie" and she is a full time FA still, (although with beaucoup seniority) and works as a model part time on the side.

From a Flight Attendant perspective - on the Airbus (the only plane I work!) we can control the volume for the safety demo, not our PA's. The PA volume is pre-set by maintenance. We have had a couple of incidents where the flight deck pa was set too low and no one could hear the flight deck. When that happened the mechanics adjusted the volume. They can also adjust the volume for the cabin PA - but most are set a standard level. On the Airbus, once the left engine is started, the Safety Demo PA will get louder and at that point most of us will turn it down. We always try to keep it rather loud so that everyone can hear the information (yeah right!!). Another side note - I have had first class passengers complain sometimes that the movie volume during the preview is too loud. That happens sometimes because it is so loud (jet engine noise) past overwing, that unless the volume is turned up, those passengers in the back can hardly hear the preview. On the 737 it may be that the flight attendant is speaking too loudly, again that PA is set by maintenance. Remember, during the flight it is really hard to hear in the back (especially the 737) so the flight attendant may not be aware that they are talking that loudly. Plus, most of us have lost some of our hearing after all these years on planes!! Don't know a thing about the RJ's except we wish they weren't here!! As for Natalie - the woman on the video - she is as beautiful as she is nice and does model on the side. Hope this info helps!!

Model?!! Wow, I wonder how rare it is for an FA to be a model on the side. But then then again it probably pays more and is a lot less stressful :D . Now if only someone would post pics of her that would really make this flyertalker's day :D

Yeah, what airbusgirl said ;)
At least at HP. ATLSLC sounds like DL.
AgentMulder, where you sitting in 1C/D when you had that recent conversation about the demo video?
