I was wondering if anyone thinks that jetBlue will add Reno to its transcon destinations? It's a decent sized west-coast airport, and it has extremely limited nonstop service to NYC. It seems like just the kind of place jetBlue would fly to. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't look for it this year. They want to send their 320's to Boston, where they are going to expand to its current cities. Neelman also said that "there is going to be one new red eye city and one new city with 10 plus flights this year.", although this may change as the face of aviation changes. The red eye so far is portland, and i think that burbank could be the new ten flight city. (I could see them adding Boston and/or IAD to JFK)

I'd agree with you, but I don't think it's just going to be BOS and IAD. 10-11 flights is the general rule of thumb for the maximum number you can dispatch from one gate in one day (and B6 bought a complete gate from, I think, AQ), and if they're all eastbound transcons you're going to have a BIG gap in the late afternoon/early evening, because the transcons aren't going to arrive in the middle of the night. And that gap is well suited to deliver daytripping businesspeople home at the end of the working day, most likely to OAK.

My best guess is that they'll add 2-3 OAK flights, two to BOS (one redeye, one daylight) and one or two to IAD (redeye and maybe daylight).

A rough schedule might be:

6:40am OAK
8:00am JFK (was 7:00am)
10:40am JFK
12:00 noon BOS
1:40pm IAD
3:20pm JFK
4:40pm OAK
6:20pm OAK
8:50pm JFK
10pm BOS
11:20pm IAD

This is totally off the top of my head, not looking at utilization, where the planes will fit in at the other end, etc., but intended to give an idea of how it might work. I moved the 7:00am JFK flight to 8:00am because if you're going to offer an OAK service, you need an early-morning flight to get people to an office for a morning meeting.

Although it looks like a great idea, I just don't see OAK happening. That is a direct route against Southwest, which is hourly service, or close to it. I don't think Jetblue needs to start a battle with Southwest now while there are still other great options. (Not necessarily from BUR)
