JetBlue TrueBlue - What happened last night in Fort Myers?

A friend of my wife's was on flight 468 RSW-BOS last night. It was due to depart 8:20pm and arrive 11:40pm. It actually departed 2:06am and arrived 4:50am! There was clearly an issue with the incoming craft on flight 469, which pushed back from BOS at 4:47pm but didn't take off until 6:42pm (and so arrived at 9:51pm), but that only accounts for two hours of the delay.
The impression I got from my wife's friend was 'they couldn't find a pilot, and then they couldn't find a co-pilot' -- I assume the scheduled captain/FO would have been illegal on hours had they taken the plane out at 10:30 or so, but with the number of flights that come into RSW, it surprises me that they found someone to take the plane out at 2am but not before!
NOT a good impression for B6 to give when many more people than usual are travelling between BOS and RSW due to Red Sox spring training. Pax have apparently been compensated with 'a free roundtrip ticket' -- I think if I'd just lost almost an entire night's sleep due to a lack of crew, I might be agitating for more than that, but maybe that's just me...
What really happened?

Hey, I would be happy if I got that free round trip. No other airline would do that for you. And at least they didn't have to be anywhere by midnight. I think that this is somewhat common for all airlines. This has happened to me before on AA, because of weather, the plane got in too late. Your friend was probably just part of the unlucky ones.

There were a lot of weather problems last night in the south east. I flew FLL-DFW last night and we were delayed because of the weather to the north and west of FLL. But we were only 1.5hrs late.
