US Airways cuts airport clubs
US Airways Group Inc. will close four airport clubs to cut costs. Clubs will
close April 2 in Los Angeles, San Francisco and West Palm Beach, Fla., costing
the jobs of eight full-time and 10 part-time workers. The affected employees
have received severance packages, the airline says.

Short answer...I don't know.

AWA has traditionally only had clubs at the hubs, PHX, LAS and CMH (while it was a hub). Other then that, AWA has previously used Partner's clubs in appropriate locations.

LAX is now more then just a normal station. Between the traditional mainline flights to PHX and LAS, the transcons and now the Express flights to Mexico, Canada as well as domestic locations other then PHX and LAS, LAX may have critical mass that justifies a club. Since Southwest does not do clubs, AWA would be the likely airline to take over the space if it so chooses.

If its going to cost anything, prob not.
You Elites have the most influence, if they get enuf requests, after awhile they might give in!

I have to believe that HP will go for the club. They've been drooling over the possibility of a Club at LAX as they'll be able to offer access for their QF and RJ codeshare pax in F.

I was told by someone who should know that HP wanted to get its hands on the US club at LAX. However, that was a year ago, when oil prices were lower, the transcons seemed like a winner and, most importantly, it was all wishful thinking because US was still using the club.

At this point, it's anybody's guess, but I also know management told employees a couple months ago that they were working on getting more gates at LAX. I believe US has three gates in T1, so HP potentially could end up with a total of six gates. And that would seem to be big enough to justify a club.

Of course, longer term, the question is how HP would continue to grow in LAX. But that's getting a little ahead of things! :)

i would have to believe so. lax ops have always talked about the club, and them just waiting for us to jump ship to join ua in term 7. us is show behind in payments to the lax airport authority, all plans for the move were blocked is what i was told on my last trip to lax last month, but hp agents said the club was in the near future. thank god, in feb on my last trip, hp agents in la said hp rumors for hp in lax this summer were to be over 50 flights a day, i did the math, and i dont see how that is anywhere possible, but they wouldnt tell me how or why. even with the traditional summer time build ups, they cant go from their now high 30 range to over 50 flights a day, but they did get gate 4B, 4A, and soon i think 8 is going to hp they said, or maybe it was 10, whichever is 757 capable.

Since I go to LAX a lot, I talk to the agents a lot and they did say they are getting another gate from airways. They are frustrated that the press is reporting that AWA has pulled out of the transcon markets. They really only pulled out of SFO and IAD.

They still fly to JFK and BOS from LAX and do quite well with it. I have one booked to JFK and first is almost completely sold out two weeks ahead of time.

A club in LA would be great. When I returned on Virgin with the code share it would have been nice to relax in a club in T1 before the AWA flight to PHX.

Not to mention, T1 on a Friday night is not much different than a bus terminal with all the people crowding the doors of their Southwest flights. I couldn't imagine dealing with the stress of flying that airline after a long day of sales on the road.

Once we get a solid date for the Club opening(if it happens) we should plan a Do. The would mean that everyone is leaving LAX on that day. Hopefully, it opens on a weekend to make it more convenient.

I believe HP still flies the LAX-IAD route. But agreed- HP still offers (although reduced) service from LAX to the big three on the east, anyone or any medium reporting that HP has completely pulled out of the transcon market is just plain wrong. SFO was a weak market from the start.

Nope. HP no longer flies LAX-IAD nonstop.

Are we serious here?! The route map still shows it. I was getting ready to try it out. Bummer! :(
