Southwest Rapid Rewards - stopping trip at connection airport?
I have one question about "stopping trip at connection airport." For example, I am going to travel from Chicagao to Baltimore (BWI). Currently, the ding fare from chicago to Norfolk , VA is only $46 (one way), which is much lower than BWI. I looked at the flight schedule and found some flights are connecting flight at BWI. Can I just stop my trip at BWI (not boarding at next flight from BWI to Norfolk). It would be a great saving if I can. I don't think why not.
I asked this to SWA representative. One said yes and the other said no. They did not specify what penalty would be.
One step further, which I don't think it is possible, can I take the flight at BWI on the return to Chicago? I don't think this works because the trip should start at Norfolk (by connecting at Baltimore).
I did not try this before. So I appreciate your help in advance.
FAQ 13g. Southwest does not prohibit or penalize hidden city or back to back ticketing for travel on Southwest Airlines. ATA may be another story.

NSX, what if you don't check in for the first leg of your trip, would't the reservation automatically cancel? It does on UA.

No, it does not.
You should always cancel a reservation before the first segment to avoid problems in exchanging the ticket for travel at a later date.

As long as you notify the gate agent in BWI that you will not be connecting, you'd probably be okay. You cannot, however, skip the ORF-BWI portion and just fly BWI-MDW. In fact, you would be penalized into paying a full fare because the ticket will need to be exchanged.

I've done this before and if you do not check in for your reservation, it automatically cancels and you can use that fund for a future trip w/ the confirmation number. Maybe things have changed, but that was my experience.

Keyword was "avoid". You can do it, and not call, but it may or may not cause a problem in reusing the funds. General rule of thumb is to call (or go online) before the first segment takes off to avoid any possible problems.
