Air New Zealand Air Points - SFO transfer

I'm flying Air Canada and Air New Zealand. I know both of them are the member of the star alliance. When I arrive in SFO from AKL by Air New Zealand, do I have to carry my suitcases to go to Air Canada check-in or the rampers will tranfer my suitcases to Air Canada aircraft?

Due to US security regs you will need to claim bags and deposit them at the security check just past customs (assuming bags are tagged all the way through - if they aren't then yes will need to visit AC check-in).
