Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Scarce C availability, SIN-JNB/CPT

Looking for D availability on the SIN-JNB or SIN-CPT route for September, and a surprising number of flights have zero availability in C, and almost all flights have zero availability in D. Something sounds weird here -- I don't recall any route where so much of C is sold out 6 months in advance. Is there something unusual about that particular route, or does SQ make seats available only on request, or what?

Maybe it is because there is only 30 C-seats on the B772ER compared to 42-50 on the rest of the fleet?

Try making a booking - by waitlisting - it'll usually clear within 24 hours.
SQ does this - it's not that it's sold out - they just block it off.

I know this from when i tried to book (in december 2004) a paid J class seat for September 2005 SIN-ZRH, 9 months ahead and it was showing C0 J0 D0. Waitlisted and it confirmed within 20 minutes.

Whilst waiting for it to confirm - i went to singaporeair.com and searched an I class business award for the same flight - presto - 2 seats were available there and then.

I'm willing to bet it wasn't an oversight at Capacity controls to have I class available, yet no paid J.
