Hertz - Mercs at LAX

While returning my Audi A6 yesterday, I noticed a Merc C240 parked outside the main customer service office. Asked the guy at the Gold desk, and he said it was a higher class than the A6. But lower than a Jaguar XJ8. Didn't get a close enough look in the dark to see if the Merc was a 'Kompressor' version. Either way it's great that Hertz is bringing on-line more quality European cars. Having driven both the A6 and the XJ8, I would take an Audi over the Jag any day of the week. I know that some locations have A8s, which I would love to try out. Now, just have to convince the boss that I need to go to Phoenix!!! ;)

SEA has the C Class sedan, as well, but have yet to see any Audis or Hummers here.

We do have the Escalade now, however.

Only the C230 has the Kompressor engine and Sport package. The C240 is the luxury version.

Thats funny, here in Germany its the other way around...

Merc C class = Audi A4 = Full
Merc E class = Audi A6 = Premium
Merc S class = Audi A8 = Special/Prestige Collection


Having driven both the A6 and the XJ8, I would take an Audi over the Jag any day of the week.

Why? I have driven the A6 a few times and look forward to drive a XJ8 very soon. Whats so bad about it? I mean the XJ8 is in one league with the A8 (nice car! :) ) and way above the A6, or is it?

Perhaps I should have been a tad more careful with my choice of wording about taking an Audi A6 "any day" over an XJ8. Having driven both, I really like the way the Audi drives -- though the navigation and radio control system is somewhat annoying and clunky like the BMW -- compared to the Jag. The XJ8 is a very good car to drive. But I also think the Audi is a much nicer looking car. The Jag is a bit of an "old man's" car. I would love to compare with an Audi A8. I do also find it odd, as you noted, that the Merc C240 is considered a higher class in the US than the A6.

Yes, the A6 looks more "sporty" then a XJ8. But I prefer the A8 over A6 - its more classy. The Audi navigation system is not bad compared to the BMW iDrive desaster :)
