There is a current Delta thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409077) for new enrollees to Marriott Rewards, giving them Marriott Silver, and applying "miles" to Delta Skymiles, with MR promo code USD2. Apparently the USD2 registration is also good for USAir, as well as Delta. I was asked for my hubby's USAir number (never had been Marriott member before), not Delta #. This promo is being handled now, and one may call the
"Acquisitions Desk" at Marriott Rewards for first-time enrollment at 1-800-858-0897. Despite statements that it is "non-transferable", the application went through, and I am assured he will be Silver. The condition is that miles will be posted to the partner airline for the code you use to sign up, NOT Marriott points (until you change it, I guess....)
I was then told that Continental would be starting this same promo on 3/21 (different code), and it is known that Northwest will also have this promo (different code) effective 3/21 as well. (Had I known...I would have done CO). See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409157
