Hertz - possible to request car that isn't listed as available?

Last year, same exact week in May, we were able to get a Volvo V70 at CHS with NeverLost. This year in making the reservation the only thing they can give us is a Ford Taurus or a "Special" Jaguar (for 3x the cost of the Taurus).

What can I do? I assume that it's all about availability when we get there, but is there a way to request a particular type of car? This is a reservation for my in-laws and I don't think they have #1 Club Gold.. will signing up help?

Make the reservation, then the day before call the station directly and ask about a particular vehicle.

It's how I used to get Avalons instead of Crown Vics when I'd rent Premium. ^

Sounds like a plan. Does this Hertz Gold nonsense pay for itself if one rents cars maybe 4-5 times a year, or is it only really needed for road warriors who rent a lot?

For the $50 fee, no, I don't think it would be worth it for such a low rental rate.

But they give it away left and right (too bad search is down), so chances are pretty good you can get it for free.
