That's a fat wallet, friend! Hope you don't get mugged. I'll tell you one thing that's not in my wallet -- a Capital One credit card. If Capital One spent 10% of the money it spends on "What's In Your Wallet" commercials, honoring their advertising claims and beefing up their rewards program, Capital One might have something worthwhile to squawk about; however, the commercials are nevertheless amusingly innane.

If you come to visit our fair city, either up the cash content or get a Visa/MC. Seattle is a rather AMEX-hostile place; many restaurants and smaller shops won't take it. I have to use either my Visa debit card, or my non-miles earning MC to get Delta miles at several Rewards Network (f/k/a iDine) participating restaurants.

Haven't checked out this thread until today. We had all of my kids, spouses and a niece and her husband for brunch in NYC. Took out my wallet, dropped it, and so much s$%t fell out onto the floor! That experience and this thread has convinced me it's time to downsize. I try to be savvy - certain store credit cards for their loyalty programs in addition to my Centurion, Starwood AMEX and Merrill + cards. You're right - it's WAY too much. Thanks for the reality check.

I had my wallet stolen once and lost it another time, and after having to remember and call every #(*#%#% merchant that issued a card in my wallet, I keep my day-to-day wallet down to nothing - it is all in a tiny Tumi business-card type case. Right now I have:
- Driver license
- Two business cards (my own)
- Amex Cent
- ATM/Visa card
- $100 bill and $50 bill tightly folder and hidden for "emergencies"
I keep my "pocket money" seperate - usually about $100 in mixed bills just folded in my pocket for day-to-day expenses.
When traveling, I understand, but I'm always amazed at people (men) that open their wallet at lunch and they have everything from their social security card to department store cards, and ATM receipts going back the last 12 months. A freaking time capsule and identify theft waiting to happen.
I keep my cars just as clean - hop in my car and you won't see a speck of scrap or junk - the glove box has registration, insurance, and a pair of sunglasses. Trunk has an umbrella. All the little cubbies and whatnot are empty. It was a big accomlishment for me to keep 'em this clean, but now that I've worked to make it a habit, I really like it, except I'm horrified when I get in certain friend's cars! A dozen empty or mixed up CD jewel cases, several boxes of Kleenix, three umbrellas, newspapers, magazines, clothes, etc. Their cars always smell like french fries, too!

I got tired of a big wallet. I now cary a small business card case. I stopped carrying cash entirely.
The rest of my cards are in cold storage inside a rolodex business card case. I pull out whatever card I need, when I need it, and return it later.
Now, I'm using Amex only when i'm at the 2x stores, and the AAdvantage mastercard everywhere else (because i value the Amex rewards at 1% and AAdvantage miles as a 2% rebate).

Whenever I see someone pull out a fat wallet containing 100 different pieces of plastic and a huge pile of old shop receipts etc, I just want to weep. I would NEVER employ someone who carries around their National Insurance card in their wallet!
If I don't need it almost every day, I don't carry it. The video shop card and all the FF cards sit at home or in my desk. I mean, I don't carry my swimming trunks around every day on the 1 in a 1,000 chance I might fancy a dip!
So, the RJB wallet contains:
1 debit / ATM card
1 BA Amex
1 Tesco Visa
plus the swipe card for my building and 1 business card. And £25 as of now.
And, for the moment at least, 1 Amex Travellers Cheque Card!
(And before anyone asks, yes, I do live in a minimalist apartment with very little furniture!)

Well the NI card is a bit odd as it does serve bugger all pupose in day to day living. As for 100s of card and reciepts, obvioulsy you don't do lots of quick trips every week/month and strugle to keep up on expense reports. Once the wallet fills up dump them into the laptop bag and have thw eife waid through them at the end of the month.

Well, I'm guilty of carrying too many cards - Citi's Diamond Preferred & Premier Pass, Chase's CashBuilder & Profit, Am Ex's Starwood & Hilton Honors, US Bank's WorldPerks and Kohl's. As soon as they get here, I'll have a shiny new Am Ex Blue Cash and Citi Dividend Select to throw in the mix. (Yes, I plan to weed down what I carry soon!)
But I always carry a minimum of two or three Visa/MC/AmEx's. I learned this the hard way, filling the car with gas and then the card mysteriously didn't work for the cashier. Wouldn't you know, I didn't have enough cash on me, either. I had to walk home and get another (fortunately only about 3 blocks away!)
The card company couldn't explain why it was denied - but that didn't help when I was at the cashier! There have been a couple other flukes like this, but I've been armed with other cards. Geesh!

You guys got me thinking. I carry way to much stuff everyday. I have a passport-sized wallet, a smaller wallet for credit cards and a purse. Here is what I carry around everyday (please don't laugh to loud!):
Amex Centurion
Amex Centurion Plus
Amex Gold Credit Card
Citibank AAdvantage Visa
Stadtsparkasse Köln Visa
Supermarket Club Card
Marriott Rewards
Starwood Platinum
Hilton Gold
Hertz Gold
AAdvantage Platinum 2MM
Priority Pass
NCL Lattitudes (why on earth....)
5 Maestro cards (different accounts....)
key card for my car stereo
club store membership card
expired AAA card (don't ask!)
T-Card (German telephone card, never used)
Private Health Insurance Card
Car Insurance Card
5 more membership cards....
ID card
old-style German drivers license (bigger than most passports)
International drivers license (same size)
German passport
My little son's Canadian and German passports
copy of son's birth certificate
Vaccination "pass"
two car registrations
a ton of credit card slips
some business cards...
my own business cards (hopefully)
used subway ticket
unused subway ticket
some cash (Euros)...
40 Hong Kong dollars (why the heck...)
German payphone card, expired (still in DMarks, seems I don't use payphones that often)
German payphone card, not yet expired ;)
Total weight: 730 g (or a good 1.5 lbs)
And I even have a seperate purse for use in Canada and the US....
I really need to reorganize....

I only have a small wallet so:
1 x Barclays Connect card
1 x Amex Plat charge card
1 x BMI Mastercard of the plane blue variety
1 x Priority Pass (should really be in my travel wallet)
1 x Tesco Club card
1 x Hard Rock Cafe All Access card
I'm thinking of upgrading the BMI card to paid to the version that gets 2 miles per pound spent (and this would replace Amex for most of my spending) as I do seem to be spending a fair bit on business travel this year.
Perhaps we need a thread somewhere on the best wallets for fitting in all that junk that any self respecting frequent flyer happens to carry?
Regards

you guys are all crazy!! :D
I have learnt the hard way that it dosent pay to carry heavily loaded wallets around (partly because of my own absentmindedness and partly because i grew up in quite a "rough" part of town)
Nowadays its a nice small black moreschi with
Amex card
bank cash point card
drivers licence
business cards
I keep some cash, but loose in a pocket.
and when it's traveling time out comes the passport wallet with
visa card
AZ FA card
various hotel cards
public transport cards for the city i am heading to (eg SUICA card for Tokyo, Metrocard for NY ect)
+ if ever my work takes me to somewhere "dodgy" like San Paolo or Bradford ;) then i take an extra "mugger" wallet with a couple of old supermarket cards and $20 or so cash

Wow...you people carry a heavy wallet. I stick with the simple solution. First i have no wallet, i just put my cards and money in my right pocket.
1 Drivers License
1 American Express Platinum Card - Company
1 American Express Platinum Card - Personal
1 Citibank AA Visa Card
....I use my Amex Company card as much as i can, unless of course the merchant doesn't accept it.
When traveling i go into my desk and pick out the required cards such as UA MP card, HIlton Card, STarwood etc and usally keep them in my inside jacket pocket when going out of town.
