This is a recently completed property, which, in and of itself, should be something to recommend the place. I haven't stayed there since the opening, but the location can be quite good, depending on what you're looking for.
Gurgaon is an expanding, up-scale, new suburb of Delhi which features quite a few new restaurants, shops, etc. It is about a 30 minute drive from there into the heart of New Delhi, but is quite close to the airport. Gurgaon is the preferred location for many of the multi-national corporations that have been expanding their presence in India.
I can't think of a reason not to stay there, unless you really, really want to be in the center of New Delhi.

A follow up question....
How far is the ITC Hotel Maurya Sheraton and Towers from this property?
It's not close .... especially given traffic (in particular directions) at certain times of the day. [It could take as little as 30 minutes, depending on speed and traffic, to as long as 1.5 hours. On average 45-60 minutes.]
The ITC Maurya Sheraton is in/near the diplomatic area of Delhi called Chanakyapuri. The Trident Hilton Gurgaon is beyond the airport if heading from central Delhi into a neighboring state (of Haryana) where Gurgaon is located. [Gurgaon is relatively closer to DEL airport.]

I have a two night stay here as it is near the airport and CX gets in at 01:30 (!), and will then transfer to the Hotel Oberoi in New Delhi (already part of a tour package.) Any recommendations on
transfers from the airport at that time of "day?"
transfers and best times of day to move to the Oberoi?
Any and all other comments, suggestions greatfully accepted.

This hotel is not that near the airport. The Radisson is the closest international brand to the airport.
You have several choices for transfers to the Hilton. Hotel provided transport (which may be complimentary shuttle for some and hotel supplied car for others) or prepaid taxi (take the AC variety).
Cannot help you with the best time for Gurgaon to the Oberoi, but the worst time is between 4.30 and 8 p.m. since it has taken me nearly as long as two hours to get to 10 Janpath (and I don't see why the Oberoi would be much closer/farther away given the Hilton's location relative to Lutyens Delhi).

The Trident Hilton is a really beautiful hotel. flames in the pools at night are spectacular, the buffet breakfast and dinner are quite nice and the rooms, though on the small side, are very comfortable. They have WiFi throughout the hotel. Normally we take hotel cars when travelling outside of the hotel. In the evening if we have time we take a car to the DLF City Center mall and walk around a bit. It is close enough that you can let the driver go back to the hotel and call the hotel for another car about 30 mins before your shopping/dining is done. The difference in price between dining in the hotel or in a restaurant in a mall is quite substantial. I can't wait to get back to the Trident but the price is a bit too high for my company. This combined with a small number of rooms makes other hotels more attractive on short notice.

I have booked two nights at the Trident Hilton Gurgaon and I am interested in hearing of any recent experiences - especially tratment of Diamonds.
My options were the Hyatt for over $300 + tax and the Gurgaon for $130 with no tax.
I hope that it is not some kind of borstal?

Thanks for the new vocabulary word!
I stayed in Dec 05. If you have a $130USD rate, you can't go wrong... unless you have to travel to the other side of town. Concierge arranged a car on our day off...as well as cars from/to airport. I paid $360+ per night. My traveling partner booked at the same rate as I did, but they ended up charging him only $190/night. They upgraded me to a very nice suite....had a fruit plate in the room on arrival. No Exec lounge that I saw... breakfast was included. Staff was cordial, but that is SOP for hotels there. That was about it.
So, they didn't bowl me over as a Diamond, but I'd head right back for $130. If you wanted to spend $300/night... I'd opt for a $130 room at the Hilton and see how far the extra $170 gets me with respect to food, service, amenities, etc...

Many thanks for your helpful and encouraging comments. I have now conformed two nights at $129 per week with NO tax. Having looked at the range of rates at the Hilton properties ($59 at Agra; $109 at Mumbai: $69 at Udaipur; $99 at Jaipur and $79 at Cochin) I was starting to worry about the quality/standard of the hotels.

I've stayed at a few Tridents in India and their quality is alll pretty good and all are similar. Some of them are not in main areas or are in smaller towns and Cities thus the cheaper prices.

This is great news- I'm likely to go to India in late May and our office is in Gurgaon. I couldn't get into the Hilton last time (booked except for $700+ rooms) so this time I made a cancellable reservation for the hotel even though my flight arrangements aren't finalized. Good advice on the car to the City Center Mall, too. My last 2 trips I've pretty much shuttled between the hotel and the office on weekdays and this would be a nice change of scenery.

Stayed there last week and found the WIFI to be spotty at best for which they charge $USD20 daily. Also, make sure front desk has your HHonors number for stay credit. Even though I had made on-line reservation, my HHonors number did not appear on the folio.

I agree completely that the Trident Hilton Gurgaon is a "wonderful property" the design of which remindes me of an Arabian Palace complete with pools, waterfalls and flames. I could well imagine the hotel being used as a location for some Hollywood movie.
The pre-paid taix fare from Delhi International?Domestic airport is about INR 635. Unless you make prior arrangements with a taxi company, the only option for getting TO the airport is to use a Hotel car and the charge for that is INR 1684.
I have three recent stays during January and as a Diamond, I was upgraded to a poolside room and offered a complimentary buffet breakfast. There was no welcome amenity - just a plate of three apples.
This is a great hotel

Not a bad hotel at all - just stayed for one night there at a rate that was like $250. Stylish hotel, and the restaurant has a wood fired, brick pizza oven, right in the restaurant so you can watch your pizza getting made for you. The rest of the food is quite good as well, though horribly expensive.
You can just rent a car from Hertz (or rather, their indian affiliate http://www.carzonrent.com/) for the period of your trip though - with or without a driver. Might work out a bit cheaper than using the hotel cabs and more reliable, time wise, than calling a cab. And you'd earn Hertz points as well.
Public transport in that part of Delhi's suburbs sucks, unfortunately - but wait till they get the delhi metro up to the airport and near gurgaon, things will get a lot cheaper. Another 4..5 years tops I guess. Same timeline for the overpasses - especially the one that's under construction and the construction activity is clogging the airport road (which is a busy highway to cities near new delhi .. they're also building a bypass road that'll take interstate truck traffic away from delhi and gurgaon city limits).

I stayed at the Trident Hilton Gurgaon (New Delhi) April 2007. The hotel is truely an oasis in Delhi. The room was very nice and the pool and other facilities were fantastic. The service is top notch.
As a Diamond, I was upgraded to a pool side room. There is no Executive Level / Lounge. I was as NOT offered complimentary breakfast or other amenities.
I can't answer any questions about the best method to get to and from the airport, since my company had pre-arranged a car and driver for me. I was quoted a price of $50 by the hotel for an airport pick-up - which I declined.
When I left the hotel for the airport, they asked me if I would like to be assisted through the airport by the Hilton Representative. This is a complementary service and easily saved 45+ minutes at the airport. For those that have not experienced the Delhi airport, it is as bad as everyone says. Plan on being at the airport 2 hours before the flight WITH ASSISTANCE and 3 hours if you want to "go it alone". Keep in mind, the trip from the hotel can vary from 15 to 60 minutes.

Interesting- same thing happened to me. I had to provide them with my HHonors number, which meant that they didn't have it when they assigned my room- no chance for an upgrade. I did get free breakfast, though. And last night (first night here) I spend an hour trying to get the Wi-Fi to work- on my own, with the Business Center, with the guy they sent to my room, with my company's IT staff. Nada. This morning it worked like a charm. What a waste of time last night.
I agree with the architecture- unbelievably tranquilizing. I want to take the pool home with me! Good food but not enough Indian selections at breakfast- in fairness, the customers were largely Westerners but I'm an Indian-food-loving Kansan!
Thanks for the advice about being "assisted" through check-in; I've done it twice on my own at DEL and survived but it really is a madhouse. I'm leaving tomorrow so that advice will come in handy.

For those with checked luggage this can provide a bit of a time savings. For me it provides no time savings as I am comfortable enough with DEL to get through in 2 hours or even half of that if pushing it. (Generally, I'd suggest three hours for most people travelling in coach, with checked luggage, no elite status and not very familiar with the process.)

I decided to go it alone last night (my company had paid for a driver for the whole day and I decided to continue with him). No problem at all. I selected the airport entrance to the extreme left as I faced the terminal and there was no line getting in. (On a previous trip an enterprising local had led me over to it and said it was the "VIP entrance".) I didn't encounter major lines to have my bag X-rayed or for check-in or Immigration. Within half an hour of my arrival at the airport I was through both. (I should mention that I was in Business Class so I could use that line, but at the time there weren't many checking into Coach either.)
I did get there ridiculously early- left the hotel at 8 PM for a midnight flight and got there at 8:30 PM. Things got more congested as the night went on.

I'm a HHonors Gold VIP, do I get transfers and free breakfast anyway?

Is this a Hotel you would recommend?
and finally and most importantly
How much is a beer there?

I don't believe you get transfers or free breakfast... Having stayed there twice, I would definitely recommend the place - although it is out of town... so it depends on whether you're going for business or pleasure and whether your business is in the suburb or not.
Anyway - this is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. Although pricey - and the $11 difference in price is nothing compared to the cost of the breakfast - I believe it's almost $20 for bkfst... so...
I'd probably go with the hotel rate!

I concur with Nickvora - the Trident is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. I am a Diamond and did not receive a free breakfast, so your $11 represents a cost savings if you plan on having breakfast. They also do not have an Executive Lounge, so no perk there. I did get an upgraded to a room with a view of the pool.
The transfer to and from the airport is valuable. I would recommend pre-arranged transportation no matter what your plans are, so take advantage of this. Also, when you depart Delhi, the airport transfer will also include access to the Hilton Helper within the airport. This will likely save you up to an hour at the airport.
Take the hotel rate.

Dont use the hotel airport transfer - costs a bomb.
There's several cab dispatchers (including a Hertz desk) at DEL airport once you cross customs. You can get any of those - there's two that run aircon sedans and another one that runs bargain basement non aircon old rattletrap ambassador cars ..
And I'd suggest using a car from Hertz (www.carzonrent.com is the indian affiliate in DEL) or other local taxi company instead of booking through the hotel .. that's a saving of over 50% in cost. And the Hertz fare is going to be about $20 or 25 for a hour long trip downtown.
Not recommended if you have business in downtown delhi - there's a lot of roadwork (overpasses etc) in the area, and traffic can be (hell, IS) murder.
Try the Le Meridien downtown .. it is not bad at all. Dont touch the Intercontinental with a bargepole.

They included airport transfers with the rate so I booked with the Hotel in the end. I have some business in Gurgaon so it suits be better.
I have stayed at Le Meridien before, but for me a decent pool is important. The circular pool at LM is normally populated by me and 600 pigeons! and their deposits!
Looking forward to staying at what sounds like a great hotel. I'll have my Indian agent driving me to every AHU factory in Delhi for 3 of my 4 day stay, so an Oasis of calm will be perfect.

I LOVE the Hilton Trident! I was also going into an office in Gurgaon and in Delhi proximity is everything- the traffic is crazy and commutes can be wrose than in San Francisco or LA (but much more colorful).
As a Gold, I got free breakfast. For some reason my HHonors # didn't make it onto the reservation record so when they assigned my room they didn't know my status- still a very nice room. Make sure your HHonors # is on the record before you check in.

And in Delhi (like in Le Meridien or Sheraton) please remember that all state taxes are calculated based on the room you stay, so if they upgrade you to a suite with rack rate of 1000 USD, all taxes are based on 1000 USD, not for the rate you actually paying. I got a nice suite last time in LE Meridien but paid a small fortune for the taxes.

Thanks for the warning- in general, Elite perks are usually good for my employer because they save money or time or make me more productive (e.g., a domestic Coach upgrade). I'll turn down an upgraded room knowing it will cost more and I'm in it mostly to sleep anyway.
nascar9900, I used the driver my company hired to go back to the airport and didn't have any problem getting through without "Hilton Helper". I got there plenty early for a midnight flight, waltzed through the airport entrance at the extreme left (seems to be less used, shorter line) and was checked in and through Immigration in maybe 45 minutes. I had a similar experience on my previous trip in December. I'm not sure if they could have done much better than that.
