I was under the impression that all Y, B as well as domestic N and U fares were non-refundable. Since when did this change? I got a non-refundable B fare in the PHL-LGW market.

I was recently fare-shopping for an upcoming midweek trip to LAX, for which I need a refundable ticket, and there were both refundable and nonrefundable B fares available. In the WAS-LAX market, the refundable H fares are about the same price as nonrefundable B fares, while the refundable B costs almost as much as full Y. For Preferreds like us, I guess the big advantage in a nonrefundable B fare is getting a free upgrade at time of booking (for domestic flights) or a lesser number of miles required to upgrade to Envoy (for international flights). "Full fare" doesn't necessarily mean "refundable." |
