Hilton HHonors - Amex MR's to Hawaiian Miles to HHonors Points

I recently read a thread on here somewhere that mentioned it was better to "wash" your AMEX MR points through hawaiian airmiles before turning them into HHONORS points.

Right now 1000 AMEX = 1000 HHonors but the Post said something like

1000 AMEX = 1000 Hawaiian = 1500 HHonors?


I cant find the info anywhere, anyone remember the post im talking about?

It's 1000 MR = 1000 Hawaiian Miles

and then 5000 Hawaiian Miles = 10000 Hilton Honors Points

This is the only thing I do with my MR points. But given the latest change to the HH Amex bennies, I may dump the MR card and pick up the HH Amex instead.

The only downside I see is that I'd be dumping a charge card for a credit card, so there are credit limit issues to deal with (especially since I already have a Starwood and a DL Amex).

I just last night received a card from HH Amex listing the benefits and it didn't mention the new changes (gas stations etc.) Are these definitely in effect?

Will this work if I open a new Hawaiian Airlines ff account for the sole purpose of washing my AMEX points through it? I want to make sure that I don't transfer them over to Hawaiian and then find them stuck there and not be allowed by program rules to then move them to Hilton.

Yes - that's the only reason I have an HA account. But I would warn against keeping any kind of balance in HA - you never know when things will change.

I have hilton if anyone would like to do a mutual exchange. :)
