America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - HP vs AS in F
Had a trip from the Bay Area to PHX today. Since I wanted to accrue at least some miles toward MVPG, I decided to fly OAK-SNA on AS, then SNA-PHX on some other airline. Since there were limited choices, I picked the one that would get me at least some miles that might be useful: HP.
So this is what happened:
OAK-SNA on AS--Great leather seats. Three FAs with wide smiles welcoming the passengers. FA addressing me by my name, asking what I'd like to drink. Drink served in glass. Frequent checks re refills. Announcement that F Lav is for F Class only. Lav decent. Only 3 of 12 seats full.
SNA-PHX on HP--Crappy seat. Coming onto aircraft F pax with bulkhead seat (not me) made to check Std size carry-on because there was "no space in overhead" despite protest. Once on plane a whole overhead was empty. FA dismissed the pax dismay. Surly FA. Drinks in plastic. No refills. Y pax allowed to use F Lav. Haven't seen such a run down and smelly toilet in a long time. 8 of 8 seats full.
And I paid twice as much for the second leg!

8 out of 8 says you were on an HP 737 which is no treat and only used as a step up from a RJ in some markets. Next time make sure you are flying on a HP A320 or A319 and I am sure you will have a different view.

This is a AS-HP cross post. Here's my reply in the AS forum.
Oh not this again. You know, it's not nice to cross-post between forums.
You were on one of HP's older 737-300's complete with older F seats, which look like the AS seats. I know this because you indicated there were only 8 seats. These planes are in old condition.
Had you been on a A320/319 you would have been seated in the newer F cabin with 12 seats. Unlike HP's A320 seats, AS's seats lack an adjustable headrest and look like the older 1980's models.
If you had asked anyone in the HP forum, they would have told you to avoid the 737 if the A320 is an option.
HP serves in glassware on longer flights. Go to the DL or US forums. It won't be long before AS goes the plastic route.
HP's FA's are hardly surly. 43 flight segments this year, and I have yet to come into contact with a FA who falls into this catagory.

i flew in hp f quite a bit last year between the west coast and was. then, around xmas, an fter gifted me an upgrade for a pdx-oak flight. i was mvg several years back and wasn't too into the service then, but my oak flight successfully brought back around: very nice salad (sure i could have bought the same salad at mcds, but i didn't have to), china, glasses, good service. --all on a 1.5 hour snack flight.
