Travel Technology - Internet based Video Recording Service for German TV

i registered for a german TV internet Recording service.

the url is www.shift.tv

the idea is awesome. you can select the programs you want to record . than they will record it for you.
you can later than stream the programs with a broadband connection.

i am doing a test , will past quality of the service later.

Unfortunately they are down at the moment due to "huge demand".

I can do this at home with my Tivo :D

I schedule something online, and through tivotogo I can download stuff wherever I am :D

Thanks to Comcast and my new upload speed it isn't even that slow...

So, ScottC, you can use your Tivo in the US to record a TV program in Germany ?
I have not seen the actual service but it was my understanding from the Pelikan that it would be recording actually IN Germany but stream OUTSIDE of Germany.

No, but it would work the other way around. 2 weeks ago I tested it with someone in Spain, we recorded something in the US, and he was able to watch it in Spain.

so this service saves me from putting a Tivo in a location in Germany.

I hope the site comes back soon with more details.

they have ARTE ! and i think 3sat too.

arte i saw when i was logged in . i think they wanted to offer all cable programs in germany.

i got an email from customer support that they are setting up new servers, and they didnt think that there would be such a demand on a service like this. but of course all people outside germany , german in us etc. are now able to see german TV. this is a great great thing.

if i found someone in germany who will set up tivo and than!
who has enough upstream so i can watch this in myhome via adsl iwould be happy.

but normally germany has a 16kb upstream. and i dont have a problem to pay for such a service.

so i dont have to ask a friend to set up something for me.

almost 1Mbit upstream here on my cable internet :)

It used to be 256 up which was not enough...

and if you mean digital copy rips from TV. than this is illegal!
