Southwest Rapid Rewards - Ding Discriminates Against Me

So far, every DING sale I've seen has ended at 7 or 8 p.m. Central time. I generally don't get a chance to get on-line until after 8 or 9. And, I can't download "unapproved" programs on my computer at work.
Pity us who do not have access to DING during the day! :(

I'm in a similar situation, in that I don't have access to a Windows computer while at work. However, I noticed that I could grab the URL for the current sale by visiting the following web page:
http://ding.southwest.com/cgi-bin/systray?action=getMessages&installId=INSTALLID&cksum=CKSUM&os=WinXP&version=1.00
You'll need to replace INSTALLID and CKSUM with those that match your Ding! account - just click on a Ding! offer, even an expired one, and you'll see those numbers in the Address bar of your web browser.

Ding is pretty useless on the West Coast unless you have access from work. And your company permits you to download software. :(
I have started checking fares before I leave for the office, but usually don't have time to kill at that point in my day.
Would be much better if they offered this at night instead. :cool:

It discriminates against me, too. I hope SWA gets DING! for Mac OS X soon. :confused:

I really just can't believe WN is doing Ding.
It leaves out many loyal flyers including myself. My operating system doesn't support Ding.
I am a loyal flyer and feel very cheated out of lower fares, as well as the opportunity to get the bonus credits for signing up.
I am going to send the Rapid Rewards people a letter voicing my disappointment. Those out there should do the same.
Two thumbs down to Ding!!! :td: :td:
You folks need to do what I did: install Ding at home (or at a friend's house) and train your friend or relative to click on the Ding sale and email you the URL. Then you can paste it into your browser at work.
C'mon - is all this whining really necessary? :rolleyes:
I installed Ding on a 6 year old, Windows 98 laptop that I retrieved from the back of my closet. It sits in the corner of the office and runs only that application.
Here's an idea: go out and spend $100 on an ancient Win 98 computer, and install only Ding on it. Your first deal will pay for itself.
The Ding FAQ says you need Win98 Second Edition. True or not?

This doesn't work for me. Mine just comes back with the following page source (which displays the single digit 2):
<getMessagesResponse>
<status>2</status>
<headlines>
</headlines>
<appUpdates>
</appUpdates>
</getMessagesResponse>
Is there a hack that actually works?

I suggest you check your URL for typos: I do receive the "2" response code if I leave out the "os=WinXP" or "version=1.00" , or if the CKSUM and INSTALLID I use don't match those from Ding! installation. (My CKSUM is a 16-digit number, INSTALLID a 15-digit figure; I don't know if all installations IDs are the same lengths as mine, but I supect so.)
Thanks. I had cksum typed in uppercase. When I changed it to lowercase, it worked. I won't ask you how you came across this very useful tidbit of inside information. ;)
I will now post a new thread to highlight this indispensible technique.

I'll bet that this (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409794) technique will do the job for you. Just find a friend with a Windows machine and you should be permanently set within just a few minutes.

All of my relatives and my friends do not have a compatible operating system.
And, at work, it's out of the question.
It seems WN and the Ding people didn't thought this process out to include everyone.
The technique in the other thread only requires a temporary installation of Ding, just long enough to generate an installId and cksum. Once. Really. Then you can immediately remove Ding forever and you will still have access from any browser.

Somebody's been listening. Today's offer didn't end until 9:30. Of course, there wasn't any offer of interest, but still, I'm pleased!
Maybe someone's been listening, found out about the Daily Doubles, and overruled the decision to spice up the game. :(

I had the opposite experience today. My DING fares expired at 11:30am PST, which is even worse that the old deadline. :td:
Quite a shame, there were several fares that were tempting, but I didn't have sufficient time to check the details and book them. :(
There are typically two offers per day. The second one arrived 40 minutes ago. It expires 630PM CST.
For the first time, a THIRD Ding sale will be activated today at 430PM Central time. Good until 930PM Central.
Ding Daily Doubles disappeared. :(
