We need help in where and how to down load pictures so that flyertalk viewers can see them.
We have an Olympus C-7000 camera. We have many pictures from our 23 days on the South Island of New Zealand. We posted a trip report, and now want to add a link to our pictures. We asked for help in our report, but so far only a pay for site was recommended. Seem to me that "we", flyertalk have some resources and I also understand that Kodak (and some others) offer free download and storage, hoping you will order prints. I went to their site but could not find the right place. Any help?
My wife had downloaded them onto our computer, reoriented them so that they are all facing the right way (redid the sideways ones). That is great for use and those visiting, but useless to others. They are on a Fijifilm xD Picture Card, 512 mb (not full).
If someone could even give me a link to earlier discussions, that might help.

i use and love webshots
you can host a couple hundred for free and after that its like $30 a year...
i like it over the other sites because it doesnt shrink your pictures down to a nothing-size....

Thank you. Joined, but have not downloaded their software yet.
Any problems with downloading their software? Virus concerns?
Once we have done the download and then loaded our pictures, will we be able to get a URL reference for people to click on or how do people find our stuff?

You can do it at photos.yahoo.com. Once signed up via a free Yahoo account, you can creat an album, edit it to 'public view' and upload the pics. Then send out the URL for that album to your friends.

ranles, i've had no problems with webshots software.
actually, now that i think about it you dont even need it. just create an account and then tell it to upload photos. it will install some minor software for purposes of uploading the photos, but you dont need to download the full fledged webshots photo managing software.
in regard to photos.yahoo.com - i used to use this service, but then they downgraded it to the point that others can only view very low resolution versions of your photos.
and yes, once you upload photos they will give you an URL to direct others to....

Are you looking for something you can put a slideshow together on? I use Imagestation which was free but now seems to charge :(
If you want somewhere to link your photos something like this (http://img140.exs.cx/img140/2702/dsc00112resize4xw.jpg) then www.imageshack.us is free and with unlimited bandwidth. You can only upload photos one at a time which sucks, although you can buy credits to do multiple uploads.

flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com/) is one of the best places to store and share pictures online, IMO. ^

I rather like the Home Page feature that's in Apple .Mac - I wouldn't pay $100 a year for just that, but it's part of a nice bundle.

I have used ofoto.com (owned by Kodak I believe). I recently have been using Flickr and so far I like it.

I've been using www.pbase.com for a number of years now, and really like it. I like the simple interface for both viewing pictures and doing the administration of my set of pictures ( www.pbase.com/rcullen ). I highly recommend it. I think now you have to pay (used to be free). But I don't think it's any more than $10-15 a year for quite a large amount of storage.

Agreed. I can have a web page composed and posted in fewer than 5 minutes using iPhoto and .Mac Homepage. The New Years page on my site (http://homepage.mac.com/summerwise/PhotoAlbum36.html) was created while inebriated enough that I was not aware the next day that I had posted it.;) If that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is.:)
I get it for free, though. Dunno if I'd pay. I'd definitely consider it, as the templates are spiffy and easy, and you get a decent amount of space, as well as a bunch of free applications, clipart, etc to download. According to the site, you get 250 MB of space for mail and photos and can send messages up to 10 MB.
It's a great solution for Mac users, due to the nice integration with both iPhoto and iMovie.
There's a sample site here (http://homepage.mac.com/steve) that shows what you can do using the regular templates. It's also possible to upload your own HTML if you'd rather.

I'm surprised it hasn't been posted yet, but I'm all about http://www.fotki.com .. $30 / year for unlimited storage.
One quick reminder...
If posting photos (or anything else) using these hosting sites, don't forget to keep copies of all the data you're dumping there!
You never know when some of the executives might decide to take their venture capital and skip town, or maybe just not pay their co-lo bill, or maybe not get your annual payment to them.
Having someone else host your information means that it is open to a little bit more risk of getting corrupted or disappearing.

Good point. I only use these sites for sharing the pics, and keep the originals either on my hard drive or on CDs.

I've been using winkflash.com - free unlimited lifetime storage, free sharing, etc... and 36 free prints if you use the following coupon code which was in pcmagazine : Z9347RGM

I prefer going the self-hosting route.
There are plenty of webhosters that'll sell you hosting for around $30 with 1Gb of storage, then you simply install your own gallery package.

I use Fotopic (http://www.fotopic.net) - lots and lots and lots of features, and free for basic level members.

We are ready to upload our trip photos from New Zealand. You told my husband it was not necessary to download all the webshots software but there would be some minor software to load for the "upload" program. Is this program ActiveX? When I look at the risk associated with downloading this it warns that one should not do so unless necessary, now it is necessary if you want to use this program - just want to be sure this is the program you downloaded and that you have not encountered any problems
Thanks for the help.

Thanks all. Wife managed to get them into Webshot. About 150 pictures from our 23 days in New Zealand South Island. Note, it takes two "albums", as an album is limited to 100.
http://community.webshots.com/user/ranles
1. The following link, http://community.webshots.com/user/ranles will take you to the Webshots site, the Community folder which contains 2 albums (you may need to click the maximize button to see the whole page); 1) New Zealand Trip 2005 and 2) New Zealand Trip 2005 Continued.
2. Select New Zealand Trip 2005 first and the album with 100 pictures will come up. The page may be minimized so click the maximize button for ease of seeing photos more clearly.
3. You can click each one individually to see full size picture or in the “More Box” on the left select View Slide Show (recommended).
4. Slide Show is set for 5 seconds between each picture, you can change this by clicking on the down arrow next to the “5 Seconds” and change to 2, 10 (recommended to read caption and see picture) or 20 seconds.
5. To start slide show click the arrow to the right of the orange pause button and the show will start. You can push the orange pause button at any time, and then to restart, push the right arrow again.
6. Once all 100 pictures have been viewed the the show starts again so push the “Back” button in the top upper right of the slide screen. This will take you back to the full view of the album.
7. Select My Albums in the upper left of the screen.
8. Select New Zealand Trip 2005 Continued and repeat steps 3 – 6 above.
9. Once done you can then exit the program by clicking the “Red X” in the upper right hand corner of the Web Page. If you wish to start over, or view in another manor, click the “back” button in the extreme left top corner.
10. Note, when in pause, the picture may be printed on you computer.
