I just checked out the newest posting on Amex Canada for a car rentals and they really suck. That is the best I can say. AVIS offers only 2 or 3 day rental at 12k or 15k. Whereas on the US site, you can get a $300Us voucher if you are a US resident for 30,000. A much better deal if you are looking for a longer term rental which I am.
I am increasingly disallusioned with Amex's program. I have hundreds of thousands of points and I think they are of limited value, or rather poor value. Most can be transferred to other FF or FH plans, not what I had thought they were originally. I had hoped to redeem for a ticket or stay and thus earn points/miles. No longer.
