Starwood Preferred Guest - Using Two Free Weekend Nights for Same Night/Same Hotel

Hello,

I know this has been discussed here before but I can't find it with the Google workaround.

Is it possible to use the free weekend award at the same hotel for two rooms for the same night? A friend of mine is coming to town and I thought I can go to a resort with him to use up the leftover nights.

I thought the official rule is that the free night is not transferrable so I wonder if this is possible.

Thanks.

Absolutely. The agent will just make 2 reservations for you.

As long as you are staying at the hotel in one room you can get an add'l room no problemo.

I made a reservation doing this and then called back to cancel one of the rooms. The agent started telling me that I couldn't have two rooms booked the same night using the promo, that is was for me and the other room would have to be points, yadda, yadda. She persisted in her explanation even after I told her the second room had been reserved for little kids (connected rooms were requested). It was really irrelevant at that point since I was cancelling the stay but if you have a problem, I'd say do the usual "hang up and call again".

In this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398493) Starwood Lurker writes: If you are going to be staying and need a second room for other members of your family, you can redeem two of these for the same hotel and the same nights. If anyone at the Customer Contact Center needs clarification on this, tell them to contact me as I have the email from SPG GMO that says this is okay. The email exchange I have from SPG GMO reads as follows:

"ME: We have said that these can't be transferred to another person as a gift like Preferred (free) Night Awards can be, but that a member can use more than one to redeem for multiple rooms on a given weekend at the same property provided they are staying in one of the rooms, i.e. for a family member on the same stay. Is that correct?

SPG GMO: Yes, that is correct.""ME: Just to further clarify...would this be okay if the second or third room was not a family member, but say, an acquaintance?

SPG GMO: Yes, that’s okay."

I had 6 free weekend nights and used 2 rooms/3 nights at Westin Kierland without any problem.

I had once the same situation. The Starwood agent put me on hold to check with the hotel (for about 30 seconds) to confirm that the hotel would take the reservation for two rooms for the same night.

This was at the Westin Diplomat in Florida (April 2004).

It left me with the impression that it could be done... if the specific property was willing to accept whatever Starwood pays them for the free nights (i.e. had no better alternative).

In any case, the hotel must have said yes. On top of that, as a Platinum, I received a wonderful suite and an adjacent room, plus access to the lounge for my whole family. Very nice!

Things like this and I continue trying to requalify as a Platinum very year.
