Hi,

I am going to spend a week in the Washington DC area. I am hoping to stay at a rented condo, but I may spend the week in a Hotel. I have about 20,000 starpoints (not a lot) and want to maximize the number of nights I can get for free.

I looked on the starwood website and saw the hotels, but am not familiar with good/bad neighborhoods, etc. to know what is a good place to stay.

I also want to make the points last as many nights as I can. I am fine with an average hotel - I do not need anything fancy. I just like free.

I see Beltsville has a 4-pts for 3-4K/night. Bethesda has one for 7K/night.

Any ideas/suggestions?

We will be playing tourist in DC, going to Georgetown campus, going to the touristy things.

Thanks!

Mikey

Consider the Sheraton Pentagon South, a Cat 2 property. Much closer in than Beltsville and a shuttle to the metro.

5th night free doesn't apply with Category 2, but weekend nights are only 3k points (4k during the week).

For ease of Metro access (which will get you pretty much everywhere but Georgetown, unless you walk across the river from Rosslyn), I would say the 4 points in Bethesda would be a good option. It is within walking distance (although not a short walk, but also not to long) to the Bethesda Metro (Red Line), which will allow you to avoid driving in DC and get you to all of the sights.

Beltsville is much farther out and harder to get to a Metro station. Nothing wrong with the 4 points in VA, I just don't know those properties as well.

Thanks for the info. I looked up the Sheraton Pentagon and it looks like it might work. Only problem is that I cannot book more than 5 nights with points. I want 7 nights.

Huh?

Book two separate awards then.

Or is the property sold out some nights?

If you're willing to pay for a few nights, the Sheraton 4 Pts Downtown is Metro accessible and one of the nicer 4 Pts I've been in. You can also walk just about anywhere downtown from the hotel.
