Does anyone know why a Malibu is considered a YC and not a C? I rented a C today and was given a Malibu. Not only was I really disappointed to get a piece of s--- like that, but I was shocked when I saw that it was a YC...to me a Mazda 6 is a much better car, and I would've preferred that even if it is only a C.

I think non-Ford Company products are "specialty" vehicles. Every non-FoMoCo vehicle I have received has been a "Y" car. Buicks, Toyotas, Infinitis, Chevys, etc...

So being a GM product automatically makes the Malibu a YC, just as the Alero is (even though it also is a base model with no leather, sunroof, or other goodies).

Every FoMoCo "Y" vehicle I have received has had extras (NL, leather, sunroof, etc).

Also remember the Malibu was never supposed to end up in rental fleets, that's what the Chevy Classic is for. Alas, GM overproduced and here the Malibu is. Seems like Ford has the same issue with the Five Hundred, as I've seen more of these on Hertz lots.

The best advice I can offer is to put "no chevy's" or GM -if you dislike most GM models, in your profile. Not guaranteed that you won't receive a piece of work like the malibu (or anything else chevy makes), but it will definately help.
