Hi y'all,
This year's "Fly First Class and Earn Elite Status" promo is different from last year's, contrary to what was mentioned in an earlier thread on this promo. ( I started a different thread cuz I wanted to point out the warning).
Flying First Class this year will earn you Elite Status (Silver for 2 F/C trips or Gold for 6) only until Feb 2006 !!!
With last year's (2004) promo (called "Go For Gold"), if you earned Elite using this method in 2004, it worked just as if you earned Elite the hard way (butt in seat). IE: earning Elite in 2004 qualified you as Elite from that point on and for the program year 2005, which ends the last day of Feb 2006.
This year's promo only gives you Elite until Feb 2006, the same "end date" as last year's
I guess I can't really complain. After 2 years of "butt in seat" Platinum, I've defected to NW for my eastbound flying. HP does great on the short hauls, but their First Class on anything over 2 hours is a joke. So I was glad to see last year's "Go For Gold" promo. I was originally hoping to qualify for Platinum on NW and Silver on HP ... which is hard when doing only short hauls. I ended up qualifying for Gold on this promo cheaper than Silver "butt in seat" ... so that's why I can't complain.
But I am peev'ed that this year's promo is significantly different than last year's without any obvious statement to that effect in their marketing. From reading the earlier thread, it sounds as if most folks (myself included) thot this was the same as last year (IE: qualifying would give Elite until the end of Feb 2007). In my personal opinion, this is deceiptful :(
