I don't have a cell phone here at home in NY, but would like to have one for use during my upcoming vacation in SE Asia. I plan on renting an international cell phone for one month from T-Mobile, and simply using their airtime.
Has anyone on this board ever rented a cell phone for overseas use? Do the phone actually work once overseas? Am I getting myself into a mess, or will the transaction actually work as advertised? I am not a tech savvy person. Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Any experiences or opinions you might share will be well appreciated! Thanks.

Check this link. Just ordered this phone for a trip to Italy. It was on the Gold summary statement from AA Advantage. Offers 800 miles also and a $29 phone that is yours to keep, no s/h charge, no fees, airtime only and is highly recommended by credible sources.

Do you see these rates of $1.25/minute as kinda steep? New to the idea and thought I had seem fall less rates quoted before, when using a sim card on a GSM phone? Maybe it was using a pre-paid phone card?
