Well I think this is the first time that this card is mentioned here.. Amex Platinum Aeromexico is a good card (in my opinion)... since I got this card, I followed the rules and I got “Platino Status” with Aeromexico, and because AM is a Skyteam member, I automatically went Skyteam Elite Plus member (not only Elite), so I have priority in boarding and also free access to AM VIP Rooms and when flying business class I also have access to many Skyteam VIP rooms.. well some other benefits are:

• Give the miles for one ticket and TWO people will fly for your miles, also in transatlantic flights… (depending on how much you spent with the card, is how many certificates you will have to make your miles fly two)
• Complementary access to all AM VIP rooms in Mexico and also the ones in US.
• Complementary access to skyteam VIP rooms when flying business class or when flying international even in coach class.
• Traditional platinum benefits (Fine hotels and resorts program, the cruise program, etc, you receive a “free” magazine, the platinum travel services 24/7, Fine Dinning, etc.)
• If you get the “Platino Status with AM” fly on first class (Clase Premier) you and a partner because you can request an upgrade for two… fly first all over Mexico or from Mexico (any city where AM flies) to the US, or to South America… if you are flying to Europe, you need to give kilometers or miles for the upgrade unless you use the 2x1 first class benefit.
• Get 4.8 kilometers per dollar spent with aeromexico, instead of 1 point per dollar with the traditional MR program.
• Get the Skyteam Elite Plus status for a year! If you qualify.
• Fly first class in all the new planes from AM 737-700, 767 and 777 300ER
• Receive a free certificate per year to fly two people giving miles for just one, even if you don’t use the card.. (a rare thing I think)
• Speak with Amex Mexico all over the world calling them collect for any question or service request.
• Transfer points from other frequent programs to aeromexico’s “Club Premier” program and make those points fly two people instead of one (using your certificates)… receive all the miles from Delta, Continental etc, all Skyteam airlines and do the same.

I’ll try to recall more benefits, but as you can see you can spent a weekend in Cancun, Los Cabos or Acapulco pretty often thanks to this card.

Hope this help for those living in Mexico or with a place in Mexico and deciding which card to use.

Regards,

Very impressive benefits associated with this card!; It seems a better choice (if you travel frequently), that non-Aeromexico branded Amex Platinum cards issued in Mexico, which I feel in enormous disadvantage, when compared with issued in other countries
(despite annual fee of US$ 450 + 15% tax = US$ 517.50 ).

Is this a peso or dollar based card; secondly can I use my us address for getting the card? Besides aeromexico any other airlines you get 2 for 1 with as the us program that has 20 partners in their first and business program?

Do the concierges speak english as well and how much travel delay and baggage delay insurance compensation do you get per incident?

The good thing is that it is a a peso AND a dollar card, you have two sections with your card, so if you spend dollars they charge dollars, and if you spend in pesos charge stays in pesos.. you can use either money (peso or dollar) to pay everything but charges stay in the way they were did..

AMEX offer you the same airline program here, 2x1 paying first or business class, AM is also included in that list.. BUT the 2x1 using “miles” for 1 person and getting 2 tickets is only an AM privilege..

You receive $250.00 dlls for a delay, and $600.00 per suitcase in case the airline lost it.. you also have more coverage for medical emergencies, dental emergencies, coverage when renting cars, etc..

I think they do speak English, not sure that all representatives do, but certainly they will find the way to assist you, they have a very good CS in Mexico.

For getting the card I think that you must have an address in Mexico, but you can call AMEX anyway to ask and confirm.. :)

So in order to attain sky team plus status you must spend at least 50,000 usd and of that 5,000 usd on aeromexico flights. Which airlines participate in the 2 for 1 in mexico,is it the same 20 airlines that participate in the us? How much is the baggage delay insurance benefit amount for items 3 hours or more? This card is a charge card not a credit card right?

I think you definitely need to have a place in Mexico to be able to apply.. I think is better to call AMEX US to know all particular things about the card.. ^

And if you get accepted por the AMEX AM Plat, then you can go to HSBC here in Mexico and get the HSBC Visa Delta Sky Miles that gets you 1 mile per every $10 pesos ($1 US Dollar) spent and has NO annual fee. Then you´ll have two of the best credit cards in the world, don´t you think? Well, and if that isn´t enough, then also get the Banorte Visa Classic that charges an annual fee of $390 pesos ($40 US Dollars) but gets you 1 Mexicana Mile per every $5 pesos spent ($0.5 US Dollars) that beats every card in the United States (Correct me if I am wrong). Well, Mexico has some rarities in its banking system.
