Call Starwood - they can change your status back to gold while you're on the phone. DallasBill Mar 7, 05, 4:17 pm SPG does not know that you continue to hold Platinum till you call and tell them so and ask for another renewal. They only know to renew to Gold based on the SPG transactions in their system. So, you need to call them sometime during your Gold expiry month every time that arrives again. monster Mar 8, 05, 11:17 am In past years, I have also had to call SPG to retain my Gold status and that is definitely what you should do. However, after I called in early 2004, they sent me a Gold SPG card with an expiration date of 02/06 and I seem to have retained my Gold status this year without having to make another phone call. At that time I am guessing that you will need to call again. monster Mar 8, 05, 12:28 pm I was simply trying to say (obviously not very well) that I was surprised that they gave me 2 years status when I called in 2004. Up until now I had to call every year. GMCTurbo Mar 9, 05, 7:36 pm Just received my '05 gold card today. I've never had to call other than the very first time I wanted to take advantage of the Plat benefit. I do stay about 20+ nights a year at Starwood properties so I'm close to gold on my own which might make a difference for automatic renewal. monahos Apr 13, 05, 3:57 pm My SPG Gold status vanished as well... the first time it happened two years ago I had to call to get it reinstated, and it stuck until now. However, I note SPG Gold is no longer listed among the US Amex Plat card benefits, something I am quite sure was mentioned in the past on the Amex website. Have there been any recent announcements about this? ef560 Apr 13, 05, 4:13 pm My SPG Gold status vanished as well... the first time it happened two years ago I had to call to get it reinstated, and it stuck until now. Got my 2005-2006 SPG Gold card in the mail last week....the SPG.com website doesn't say on the summary page what status you are, except to say: (xx) stays to become a Platinum Preferred Guest. On another note, here's the link to the Platinum Card website detailing the complimentary SPG Gold status: https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/platinum/starwoodguest.jsp monahos Apr 13, 05, 4:33 pm here's the link to the Platinum Card website detailing the complimentary SPG Gold status Thanks for the link. I had just done a quick check through the 'apply for a card' page, and was surprised to see Amex was not marketing this benefit to prospective customers. As for my status on the SPG site, it currently notes xx nights to Gold :( ef560 Apr 13, 05, 11:22 pm As for my status on the SPG site, it currently notes xx nights to Gold :( A quick call to SPG explaining the situation will get that corrected. I received a "regular" SPG card in the mail. I called the number on the American Express website and she switched me back to gold immediately. First time I called them (two yrs. ago), they asked me for my platinum card number. This time, I just said I had the american express platinum card and she didn't ask me for anything. Just said she'd switch it back to gold. Which was done right away. |
