I transferred to the Japanese branch of my company and was forced to give up my old American corporate amex for the Japanese version.
It turns out that Amex Japan has a "Membership Plus" program that's supposed to be like Membership Rewards (even the logo looks alike) but that the points aren't compatible/transferrable.
It's separated into regular Membership Plus for about $40/year and Membership Plus Travelers Rewards for $30/year if you want miles or hotel points (I'm not sure if Travelers rewards is $30 on top of the Membership Plus or instead of).
Does anyone have any experience with the Membership Plus program? Is it a better or worse value than Mem. Rewards? I almost spit out my tea when I saw that ANA charges an additional $80/year if you want to transfer up to 40,000 miles to them from Amex (http://www.ana.co.jp/amc_e/guide/tameru/credit/amex.html)
My annual spend on the corporate card is probably $12k a year. Do people think it's worth it to sign up?
Oddly AMEX japan won't tell me sample point/reward values the benefits are for the regular rewards program....seems like a bad sign?
