El Al launches ethnic menu

Passengers on El Al Israel Airlines will have a menu to choose from on international flights beginning March following the launch of its alternative menu on Monday.

Each month the company will offer a different ethnic meal as an alternative to the regular on-board cuisine. Those flying in March can enjoy a traditional Iraqi meal of "Kubbeh Bamya" and over the following five months the choice will be rotated between dishes from India, Morocco, Iran, Hungary and Eastern Europe.

The company said that no preordering is required and that passengers can place their orders at mealtimes.

Separately, El Al launched its new family plan for fares to New York on Monday. Between March 1-26, a couple traveling with a child under age 12 will pay $199 for minors' tickets and $883 for the adult tickets (including taxes). The company operates 40 flights per week on the New York route.

The airline recently came under new ownership following the purchase of additional shares by Izzy Borovich's Knafaim-Arkia Holdings to gain a majority stake in the company. Borovich paid $21.7 million to raise his stake in El Al from 22% to 40%. Earlier this month El Al named Haim Romano, an executive at cellular provider Partner Communications, as its new chief executive officer.

The Iraqi okra with beef was pretty good. Not so far off from homemade. I have the menu with the recipes of the ethnic foods if anyone is interested I can post it. Send me a PM if you are interested. Tomorrow night I'll see what ethnicity they are serving up this month.
