I think I already knew about the las-boi service as I vaguely remember criticizing HP for what if memory serves a flight that gets in the middle of the night into BOI.

Ah, let's see...quick look at upcoming las-abq schedules on their websites...oh excellent...they will be flying non stop from las-abq. Day business trip! Oh wait a minute..

hp #212 lvs las 11.45 pm arrives abq 2.15 am
hp #211 lvs abq 9.00 pm arrives las 9.35 pm

How is Albuquerque Int'l Airport looking like in the middle of the night anyway?

Haha, I know even at 10pm it's pretty sparse. I'd hate to see it at 2am.

Still, it's another option... but not nessecarily a good one for most buisness types.

I completely agree with you--yes it is an option--but what is HP's mindset with this arrival time? Am I missing something or should I just keep my day job :D

I dunno, are you the type of buisness traveler* HP is targetting now?

AWA's LAS hub is mostly a night flight operation. They use airplanes that normally would just sit on the tarmac at an outstation.

As one of the largest (if not the largest) vacation package operator in and out of LAS, this is the target of these flights.

Most of AWA's flights in and out of LAS work this way. BOI and ABQ are no different.

The LAS hub was made for time-insensitive, leisure travelers heading to/from Vegas or other Western destinations. HP can offer a night flight by using planes that would otherwise be sitting on the ground overnight. It is about efficient utilization of aircraft to a predominantly leisure market.

I took one of those "positioning" flights 11:50PM or something like that to PDX, arrival at 2:15 AM or thereabouts.

Creepy! Full of drunks and skells who finally fell asleep an hour into flight, only to turn into walking zombies on the other end. Yuck.

Even at noon ABQ isn't much of a crowd, I'd hate to arrive there so late. Would the rental bus even be in operation?

America West has such an awful (understaffed?) situation in LAS already, cannot imagine that they will be adding to it. Have flown and had several other folks in the last 3 months, some weekends , others mid week....lines are always 1-2 hours to check bags and then on to security. They make you also stand in the check-in line if you want to stand by for an earlier flight, the kiosk cannot (? that is what the agent said) let you in to stand by.

Understand that LAS is always busy, but the other airlines seem to manage just fine, and HPs fares are really not lower, certainly hope they make some improvements there.

I used to live in Columbus, when it was a mini-hub for America West. Often, there would only be 2 or 3 agents with 100 passengers in line. I once asked an agent and she said that HP doesn't pay enough. They would hire people who would quit after just a few months.

There's also a mainline LAS-MSY flight beginning in late April (one month from today, I think) that for some reason hasn't been announced yet. Unless I missed it.
