Apologies if already covered, but I did a search and did not see this (hooray to ahving the Search function back!)
Has anyone tried this rentaphone program? Ifg so, would appreciate comments--especially for use in UK.

I have not tried the Amex rates for this, but I do know that my cell company (VZW) provides international rentals that are not horribly priced. The link for the site provided only allows Plat members to see how much -- I am guessing that it's not that amazing of a price. Check with your US carrier for rentals that will forward your regular calls to it.

Thnaks for the response. My US cell is not GSM, so I understand I need to buy or rent a cell for Europe.

I found the prices for rentaphone to be twice as much as I paid to roam with T-Mobile. I already have a quad-band phone, so it worked out. You should look into prepaid SIM cards for different countries. THey can be cost effective, depending on your travel plans, and how many countries you'll be heading to. This will require the purchase of a new phone.

I've been reading up more and it sure sounds like the cheapest thing is to buy a GSM unlocked on Ebay and then a SIM card.
Thanks--it does not appear the Amex program would be very cost-effective for me.
