On vacation in a few weeks and may decide to change the return leg after getting to my destiation. What are my options other than standby? Can I pay a fee to guarantee a seat on the new return? Would I have to pay the fee and any additional fare difference?

Thanks,

Yes. If you're on a restricted, non-refundable ticket and you want to make a confirmed change to your return flight, you'll have to pay a change fee (usually $100) plus any applicable fare difference.

You can try standby, but there's a $25 non-refundable fee to put you on the standby list (some agents don't charge the fee so you might get lucky). This fee applies whether you actually get a seat or not.
