America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Why doesn't HP service Vail/Eagle?

I'm continually puzzled by why HP or, at least AWE, doesn't have service to Vail/Eagle. The majors fly there, with some big planes at that, and given the often horrible highway traffic from DEN to the Vail area, particularly on weekends, it seems that a lot of people would prefer to fly straight into Vail. I know I'd use the route a ton during ski season.
HP serves Aspen, which I can understand given all the money there, but given the consistently high fares PHX-EGE, it just seems like it would be a natural for HP, at least seasonally. Anyone have any insight?

Not enough connecting traffic from the west to make it profitable. For the east someone would have to do a flyover and connect back to through PHX or LAS making it not a practical leisure route. Other airlines are geographically better positioned with their hubs for the leisure demand.

I guess that makes sense, but there has to be at least as much potential for EGE as there is for Aspen, Durango and Grand Junction; perhaps more, as the Vail area is much more populated and popular as a tourist destination than the other three.

I'm not familiar with that area, but would they AWE/HP X have problems with weather? In and out of SLC they always Cx due to visibility, rain, snow, fog, and other shenanigans all the time in the winter.
