Sorry if this has been discussed b4, but I am planning a flight to italy - wanna use my amex points - can i get them to BA somehow?

If not, what are the best choices for F class to europe using amex points?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I am going to Rome, but routing through any european gateway is fine (Alitalia is not available)

What country are you (and your Amex points) based in?

Assuming US, the best route to BA is usually via Starwood. If you hold off long enough, there are regular SPG to BA bonuses available for transfers. Alternatively, go via Priority Club. Starwood will give you 5k bonus miles if you convert 20k to BA. Priority Club will give you Plat status if you transfer in enough MR points to get 60k PC points.

As RJB stated,Starwood is a viable way to get AMEX to BA, but you loose a lot of points in the conversions. Alternatives that will take a lot less of your AMEX points would be:

1) transfering to ANA, and purchasing a Lufthansa ticket
-or-
2) transfering to Delta, and purchasing an Air France ticket

As always, call and verify seat availability before doing any transfering of your points!!!

Re: bonus offers when transferring *wood points to BA, this promotion most recentlt was offered in the last quarter of 2004 and perhaps as late as January 2005, since I had made a number of transfers during that time period. I don't know if this is an annual offering or if it is offered multiple times per year, but it is possible that if it is offered annually and at the same time of year each year, then it won't be until the end of the 2005 when it is offered again.
