Wow. Tuesday and Wednesday travel from IAD-LAX is only $148 plus tax roundtrip...the lowest transcon fare I've ever seen from the DC area.

I hope AA and UA will be matching. As much as I like Independence Air for shorthauls, I'd never fly them to the West Coast because I wouldn't earn the 9000+ redeemable miles I do as an AA/US elite.

Will there be any buy-on-board food options on the Independence transcons?

It won't matter if you aren't going to fly them.

(seriously) I don't know - good question that I haven't heard anything about. That might be something to call or write about. I would imagine they would have something.

I would expect AA/UA and all others to match these fares.

Whether or not IAD-LAS is a transcon is debatable, but FlyI had it for $44 each way earlier in the year. There have also been some fare wars where US had a $60 each way refundable fare from WAS to the west coast.

For FlyI's sake, it is a good sign that the prices aren't as low as past sales have been (for the east coast markets), no $29/44 junk.

March 1st through May 25th.

spampurse,
I noticed that this sale isn't for tickets as far out as the previous sale (previous sale was until 6/30/05).
Any idea why that is?

They are probably hoping that the tickets will see at higher fares for Memorial day and summer.

Any idea if the FlyI marketing team can pitch these deals to people successfully (other than the few here on FT?)
I noticed a SMALL ad in the Orlando Sentinel last week or so advertising a few routes for FlyI. I sure hope they can get the word out better than they have been doing...I know a friend who just booked United BOS-IAD (albeit $70 more expensive) because he wanted familiarity with UA and not try some "unknown" airline. (He's not into UA miles, either)

As far as why the fare sale didn't go as far as the last one, I'm not sure. I am just a pawn in the game, and those decisions are made by people that make a LOT more money than me. I don't know if we will get down to the $44 fares for the transcons, but I would bet money that you will see another fare sale for the summer months... considering the incredibly positive response DH has gotten from its other fare sales.

From what I've heard the marketing department is really stepping things up to push the transcons. However, our flight loads for FEB / MAR are incredibly positive with a LOT of full flights and if you consider each one of those customers as possible return customers or at least someone who could say "yeah, I've been on DH and they do a good job" to a friend or family memeber then hopefully DH is making headway on the "name recognition" drought. (But of course more is needed than just word of mouth)
