I'm putting my niece on a plane next month to come visit me here in DC (well, technically, my brother is putting her on the plane coming out here and I'm picking her up)... since she's only 13, a direct flight was necessary, making HP the airline of choice. Does anyone have any experience with unaccompanied minors on HP, specifically whether I can put Lauren's dad at ease that she'll arrive alive? I already feel bad for the Phoenix-based HP employee who's gonna have to deal with the kicking and screaming (from him, not her) on the day she flies...

I don't have direct experience with HP. However, what you need to do is the following:

1. Accompany her to the gate and make sure that she gets on the plane.
2. Wait until plane leaves the gate and, preferably, takes off (although this information is not as easy to get) before leaving the airport. You can actually call reservations from the airport and ask if the plane has taken off.
3. Call brother and tell him that the plane has taken off.
4. Have brother monitor the arrival time and get to the airport at least 45 minutes before arrival. Preferably, he needs to get a gate pass from the airline and go to the gate to retrieve Lauren.

If you can do all of these things, the trip should go smoothly.
