Let say i have 5pm departure from city A going to city Z.

If i also have a Commuter RT from city A to city Q early that day.

Can i arrive at the city A airport, check my bags to City Z for the 5pm flight.

Take my Commuter RT from A to Q and back, and then board my flight for city Z when i return.

This way i wouldnt have to take a shuttle bus back to my car at the offsite parking lot, collect my bags and return to the airport during my afternoon layover prior to departing for city Z.

is it ok to do this?

Alaska won't check your bags more than 4 hours before departure.

I believe you can leave the bags at Kens Baggage. It will cost you a few $ but will save you the trip out to your car.

That will work just fine.

Thanks for your insight

I wonder if they'll check your bags A-Q-A-Z. :D

I thought about that, but frankly, i dont have time to wait to collect my bags at Q.

I am only going to Q for a meeting. 3-4 hours arrive to Depart

Are you suggesting that Alaska / Horizon would just send them along with my flights, but hold on to them for me?

I would pick them up at Z that night?

I'm thinking through-check them in A, tag them A-Q-A-Z, and pick them up in Z. If you're in Q for less than 4 hours, it's a typical domestic connection. I've had int'l connections where AS has held onto them for > 12 hours.

Another idea, if they won't do that and you want to risk this, is check them A-Q, then don't pick them up in Q, let the baggage services office hold them, then come back after your meeting and check them Q-A-Z.

Piggybacking a question on here (hope no one minds): I'm looking at a possible itinerary with an AS to AS connection time of about 4.5 hours. This connection was offered by the web site. Does the fact that it is more than 4 hours mean that I would have a problem with checking luggage through from my original to final destination? I've never had a connection this long on AS. Thanks.

They will transfer bags for a long connection, they just wont accept bags more than 4 hours prior.
