I have booked a mileage run to Kansas City,MO the weekend of May 5th, and was wondering what is the best Hilton family (or starwood) hotel to stay in that is close to the Airport? The picture of the KC Airport Hilton makes it appear as though it is in dire need of a remodel.....
Thx,
Ken

I've got a room booked at the Embassy Suites-MCI Airport at the end of May. Best rate I could get was $109/night (AAA).

The E. Suites is your best bet near the airport. It is only a 5 minute shuttle ride from the airport. The hotel is fairly new and in good shape.

The MCI Hilton and Embassy Suites are both winthin a few miles from the airport and offer free shuttle service.
The Embassy Suites is preferred by people I know who regularly travel to KC and are Hilton loyalists.
The Hilton is old, but the rooms are in great shape and the service is excellent. Don't know if they have an Executive Lounge.

MCI Hilton doesn't have an executive lounge. Gold VIP's and higher receive a voucher valid either for a free breakfast, or a free appetizer in the evening at their restaurant.
It is usually much cheaper than Embassy Suites, especially for the weekend nights. Also, rates are usually better when booking with the hotel directly rather than through the web or central reservation.
Getting points and miles posted correctly is a challenge, as their computer system is not connected to the HHonors computers, and they have to fill special forms manually and mail them to the HHonors.
Hampton Inn MCI is right across the street from Hilton, and is pretty average in terms of amenities and service.

If you are doing a pure mileage run and don't want to leave the airport, go with the Hampton Inn. I stayed there once for about $70. It's nothing special, but it will be the cheapest.
If you actually want to enjoy your one evening in KC, I'd recommend the Embassy Suites between the Plaza and Westport. On a weekend, you can get around $120/night, and you are walking distance from lots of bars and restaurants.
There's also a Hampton on the Plaza. Never stayed there, but it looks like one of the nicer ones.

On several occasions, I found that weekend rates were cheaper at the MCI Hilton ($59 to $69) compared to that Hampton Inn.

Good point Eugene. There is nothing near the airport beside office buildings. Hotel rates near the aiport are low on weekends. On the Plaza and Westport, hotel rates are higher on weekends, when tourists come in.

I have to go with the concensus here regarding the MCI Hilton. It is an older property without some of the amenities, but this is more than made up for by staff and management. Included was a personal welcome note from the general manager (with whom I had the pleasure of chatting in the restaurant). He says he sends the welcome note to all Hhonors members regardless of status. They do give you coupons for free breakfast or appetizer, and the food wasn't too bad.
All in all it's a good choice if you're only there for a mileage run.

All,
Thanks for all of your input http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Based on your opinions, I am going to stay at the Kansas City Hilton as I am only going to be there for 12 hours and I have my infant son with me. Thanks again for your help.

Can anyone tell me what Hilton property in Kansas City is closest to the Fairmont plaza hotel there? And how far is this hotel from the Fairmont?

The closest property is Hampton Inn and Suites on the Country Club Plaza. I would say this is about 6 blocks. So it is within walking distance. It is a new hotel (about 1-2 years old) and quite nice for a Hampton Inn.
The other close option is Embassy Suites. It is between Westport and the Plaza. It is within walking distance but it would be a long walk. I would recommend driving.

I would avoid this Embassy Suites unless you prefer a staff that exhibits a strong "I don't care attitude". This is the worst Hilton Property (of the hundred or so) I have stayed in. Even when I called Hilton's Customer Care and was assured twice that the manager would call to discuss my concerns it never happened. In other words bad from the top down.

Alas with the search function out, and google just giving me people from KC talking about hiltons, here's my question.
Going to KC for 4 days will be working near fairway, KS so I was looking for a hilton recomendation anywhere from downtown to fairway. I have heard the ES country club may be my best choice. But not sure. thanks!

I stayed here for 2 nights a few months ago. Upgraded to Honeymoon Suite, even though I was traveling alone. Famous Dave's BBQ just a short walk away. My recommendation!!
The Hampton Inn Village West is the newest and most unique lodging experience in the Kansas City, Kansas area! The hotel's neighbors include the Kansas Motorspeedway, T-Bones Baseball Stadium, Cabela's Outdoor Outfitters and the world's largest furniture store, the Nebraska Furniture Mart. All of these retail and sporting attractions are less than 1/4 mile from the property and one, Cabela's, inspired the design and feel that we have given the hotel. It is the only Hampton in the world with a log cabin exterior and an interior motif designed to resemble a cozy mountain lodge. The hotels 76 deluxe rooms are exceptionally well appointed and all feature Ultra Plush Mattresses from the Omaha Bedding Company, hairdryers, irons and boards, 25'' color tvs with premium channels, in-room pay per view movies, workstations, full length mirrors and wireless high speed internet access. We also have an executive honeymoon suite with a private living room and dining area, oversized jaccuzzi, fieldstone fireplace, and private patio. For the kids we have a spacious family suite that is sure to please complete with playstation, bunk beds, pull out couch, dining table, refrigerator, microwave and a seperate sleeping area for mom & dad. Relax in our indoor pool or grab a workout in the cardio fitness room before you indulge yourself with the warm cookies and milk we serve each evening. In the morning you can read your complimentary USA Today newspaper as you graze thru the complimentary breakfast bar. Located just minutes from downtown KCK, Edwardsville, Bonner Springs and Shawnee Mission, the Hampton Inn at Village West is ideally situated at the crossroads of I-70 and I-435. Whether you travel for business or pleasure the Hampton Inn Village West is here to fill the need. We look forward to an opportunity to serve you. Thank you!

There is an Embassy Suites and a Homewood Suites just north of 435 on Metcalf. I've stayed in both and would recommend either. We find it a convenient location.

Sorry I can't tell you about the Hiltons in detail, but this is my neck of the woods so I can comment on distances. The Speedway area is well away from where you'll be doing business. By NYC standards the commute is easy, bt you will be on the road a lot longer than if you stayed in closer to Fairway.
The Country Club Plaza area is closer and has a lot of interesting architecture, great shopping (although it's more national chains than local businesses) and a lively nightlife.
