Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - When are SAA joining StarAlliance ?

So when, if ever, are SAA joining *A ?

Do any SA based FFs have a better idea than they rest of us ?!? On a number of threads it has been asked in passing, and no one seems to have the answer, so much conflicting info flying around.

There is surprisingly little about it anywhere on the SAA website I have seen, yet United seem to have just sent out info saying they are in already *A !

Anyone got the inside track/has heard from the horse's mouth ? (or any other metaphor that suits !)

Based on a call to SAA today, it looks like it may be Oct/Nov this year. Nobody seems to be sure though.

there is little info about star alliance on the saa websites, but the current issue of the saa sawubona magazine has some fairly extensive articles about *A and what joining it will mean to saa - but there didn't seem to be any specifics about timescales.

As I thought - its is 'going to happen', but when no one knows, least of all SAA / Star Alliance themselves ! This may well drag on for another year !

No idea if this means anything but the SA website now has a Star Alliance page. The link isn't active though.

I had a chat with a SAA representive yesterday at the ITB in Berlin. He told me that SAA will not become a full member before march 2006. The reason for the delay is the insertion of Amadeus reservation system, it will take at least that time to be implemented everywhere.

So another year to wait!!!
