Las Vegas - Changing Planes & terminals - How long?

I am arriving into McCarren terminal 2 on a Sunday lunchtime and then need to fly on to San Farncisco. Before I book my flight to SFO, I need an estimate of long I should allow to collect bags, clear immigration and customs, make the transfer and all the necessary security. I'm thinking of allowing 2 hours.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

ThanksThis really depends on what airline you're leaving on, and whether you will be flying in First Class to SFO. The reason it matters is that you will be leaving on a Sunday afternoon. This is the worst time to be flying out of McCarran. Security lines on a Sunday afternoon can vary from a surprising 5 minutes (primarily if you can bypass the lines via a First Class ticket) to a miserable 4 hours on convention days. If you can provide the actual date, I can check the LV convention calendar and get a feel for whether it's going to be a high traffic day. I personally wouldn't recommend a connection time of less than 3 hours on a Sunday, though, allowing one hour for the process of bags/customs/etc and 2 hours for checking in and clearing security.

If you can post the airline, the class that you're flying in, and the date, I'm happy to provide more information.

Just wanted to post a quick "thanks" for the info. We flew with America West, First Class so benfitted at check in and then used their lounge for a couple of hours before strolling through the FC security line. The airport was a real zoo and the security lines for economy passengers looked as though they'd take an hour or more.

One gripe about the airport - why is there no covered walkway between T2 and T1? That was quite an unplasant walk in the midday heat.

This very significant time difference is exactly why I switched from UA to HP for most of my travel, so I could avoid those massive lines on Sundays when I leave town. One gripe about the airport - why is there no covered walkway between T2 and T1? They have a shuttle to transfer people, because so few people actually have to change terminals in LAS (it's a domestic transfer point, but from an international standpoint is generally just an O&D airport). And even a covered walkway wouldn't save you from the heat -- it would have to be a fully enclosed, air conditioned passage, which would be a significant expense considering how little it would be used...
